2016 FJR1300 Check Engine Light On
There are a couple of cel error light on threads that were started in the other forum. I thought I'd start one here too to keep things up to date over here as well.
So earlier this year, a few members had been experiencing cel events on their new '16's for no real apparent reason. The ecu would log event P1601 which is defined as sidestand deployed while in gear.
After many posts of input from different folks, I noticed that I seem to be the only one posting that was having more than just one or two of these events.
So, because mother ship's customer service was basically useless on this issue - all they could do was refer me to the dealer for further inspection which I'd already done a number of times, and the dealer was waiting on the fix from mother ship because they already knew what the issue was - at event #4, I finally called my dealer's service manager and begged him to get a hold of the factory's tech support and get some skinny on what might be causing this issue so I wouldn't have to be wasting my time as well as his while waiting on a factory fix.
The answer he got was that the bike's main relay was double pulsing the ecu during a slow key on, or partial key on while trying to start. In my case, it seemed to be the first one, AdamK in the other forum posted that he was able to recreate a cel event under the second one.
Adam's fix was to buy the OBDII adapter cable to fit a standard code scanner to the bike's connector harness. I did the same when I experienced event #5 about 3 weeks ago. I ended up downloading an app for my iphone, and once configured, it works great. I was able to read the logged events and reset them as well.
This morning, I got a call from my dealer's service manager, He informed me that mother ship has just released a service bulletin to address this issue. It apparently is just a simple ecu reflash.

Nice... Hopefully they will be shipping the 2017's with the correct ECU flash.
Although it won't matter for me and my '08, 'cuz it's all about me ya know.

Nice!...guess I'll have to contact my dealer, although I've only had the CEL come on once.

I had the dealer delete the code and remove the tape, while I was vacationing in Mexico, back in July

Likely new code includes
If($signal = "doublepulse"){$error = null}
If($signal = "doublepulse"){$error = null}

Dude, you may want to consider slowing down on the JD in that situation. Were you missing a kidney when you woke up??0face wrote:Something like that flashed in my head right before the blackout while drinking Jack Daniels with two Russian chicks in Murfreesboro TN.wheatonFJR wrote:In other words..."not to worry, turn blinking light off".gixxerjasen wrote:Likely new code includes

Re: 2016 FJR1300 Check Engine Light On
So, after stopping by the dealer Friday a week ago and getting the latest and greatest ecu firmware edition that mother ship has to offer, I've since had trouble free no ecu light on event riding under usual use for a just over a week now, so far so good.
In the other forum, AdamK has been following this 2016 fjr issue as well. He pioneered some of the work to find a way to get our bikes hooked up to an automotive style OBDII style code scanner by finding a supply source for a needed harness adapter cable. I used his sources and did the same, the components worked successfully on my bike as well to read and reset fault codes. I was able to reset slow key on cel event codes on my bike using an app for my iphone, which means I would be able to reset bs cel event codes on the while out on the road if need be.
Adam told me to quit being chicken,to go out to my bike, and perform a slow key on/partial key on procedure on my bike to verify whether or not this reflash took care of these cel issues. I can report that as of a few minutes ago, it looks like mother ship did their homework. FJR life is good....let's ride!

Re: 2016 FJR1300 Check Engine Light On
Good news! One down. I can see the day where I'll need the gizmos to read the codes now that the dIAg screen is gone for '16+. Do you mind providing a current link for the adapter, and do I just get any OBDII scanner? (admit I'm being a bit lazy here) Thanks.

Had my reflash done today...CEL is off and all is good. Tried to recreate with a slow key turn..could not reproduce CEL. Woohoo!
