I was hoping for maybe a new color, something besides black or some form of gray/silver or a cobalt blue.
Of course Galaxy Blue would be my preferred color choice, maybe in 2018?

Black just seems like a lazy afterthought to me. With such a vast color selection available, this is somewhat of a letdown.
Of course, there will be those that will jump on it....different strokes I guess.

The sport touring segment has been declining the last few years, I'll betcha not many FJR's are being sold....... how many '16's are really out there for example. The blue did get everybody a little excited though, and the black isn't going to excite many IMHO. The black was a '14 ES choice in Canada, so there's no invention of new colours. Canadians get a choice of black or matte silver (a previous Euro colour) for the ES. A is black only. There is no A listed for the US market (oops?). Maybe for '18 you'll see the root beer brown metallic..... which was the '14A choice in Canada.

I think with the revesions they made to the Gen 3's, and the number of them we see at the meets, that the number of FJR's they sell got a real shot in the arm. The segment as a whole though, ya, tiny.

f@$k Yamaha.

They waited until after I was committed to repairing my '09 before they revealed the Black '17.

Sat on it at the AIM Expo in Orlando last weekend - I asked the Yamaha rep what the deer impact survivability rating was on the '17 - I got a very puzzled look until I explained that my '09 was a large caliber deer rifle...

The black is awesome!

Are there any features different from the 2016?

I didn't catch any major differences, but there might be something in the spec sheet...

It has the same silver trim piece that the '08 had around the tank. This one had a Shad top box mount on the tail, not the Yamaha tail rack.

Which shows that color selection is an afterthought, other than Black Cherry and Bright Red.

I am curious about that SHAD rack/top box mount. Of course I already have the Givi set up on both FJRs but I do like the SHAD latching system better.

Just noticed the white police FJR in the background of the pic ExtremeMarine, I bet a lot of people would buy that smuggler if it was offered.

Regarding this image, check out where the lady's head is looking! She is very engaged in the ride. Holy smokes.

I have an 09 - I like black. I just covered it up in protective plastic film. Too bad there is not a 2017 A model. I'd wait 3 or 4 years and buy an 2017 A model and put my present suspension on the newer bike. With 77k on my 09, I might need a newer bike by 2020 or so.
