My 05 is starting to exhibit a second gear skip. It will chunk a couple times and then engage. It's been getting progressively worse and I am starting to wonder if it should be my winter project.
On the XS11, the gear dogs would round off and cause this issue. The fix was a gear swap and swapping a washer location to make it engage further.
Is there something similar on the FJR or is it worth looking at a newer gently used model as the fix?

I haven't been able to find it. I am also not allowed to sign up over there because I violated rule 97 or something.raYzerman wrote:It is likely the gear dogs worn..... big job to fix, pull engine, etc.. There is a thread somewhere on the other forum.
Is pulling the engine excessively difficult? Would I be looking at bent shift forks or just worn dogs?
Which gear is on the same fork as second?

Re: Second gear skip
And, somebody else over there is having the identical problem....
This IS a good winter project. You'll have to pull the engine, flip ér over and split the cases...... very time consuming. Never have done it, but wouldn't be afraid to if I had to.......

I have pulled a supercharged 3.8L out of a Thunderbird. After that, nothing scares me.
