Garauld Rear Rack

Post by ts3doug »

How much weight could one reasonably and safely load onto one of these racks?

Normal paved roads
Gen2 no stiffy.
I think my tent/sleeping bag/pad etc will come in <10lbs

Digging around looks like that may be pushing it on rougher roads.

May have to ask wifey to give me a stiffy for my birthday. Only fitting since that's usually all I give her.

I think you'll have issues with your subframe before my rack breaks. If my rack broke, I'd fix it for free.

The subframe is what I'm concerned about, your rack is a thing of beauty (never thought I'd say that to a fella).

If you do occasional camping trips with a light load - you should be OK. Riders with large topboxes need to be cautious when loading theirs. :!:

Right now I use a large Ventura bag slipped over the back rest and set on the seat. I've lightened my camping load a bit this winter and would like to ditch the bag and use my smuggler.
Thinking of it now though, the smuggler is a bad idea. I use the back seat to transport firewood once I set up camp..

Perhaps I'll just get a smaller trail bag.
