Thinking about picking up a new 2012 hold over and wondering what Yamaha did to resolve the ground spider issue? Anyone out there with a 2012 or the knowledge about what Yamaha did that you could share?
Any other considerations regarding the 2012 that should be factored in?

Re: 2012 Wiring Harness Question
From talking to other guys who actually know ac from dc, Yamaha has really not done much of anything to the spiders. That includes Gen III's. There are a couple of guys who have what I think is the best solution. Wire the connectors to a spider together and then run them to a good solid ground.
It is NOT the destination. It is the RIDE getting there!

Re: 2012 Wiring Harness Question
Don't know what Yamaha did on the final 2 years of the gen2's
It is an easy item to address if you have a few tools & a soldering iron.
I wouldn't let that detract buying the bike.

Re: 2012 Wiring Harness Question
The challenge is in deciding...
Go for the 2012 GenII for right around 10500, or the 2014 for 11999.
Queensland, really?
When I was in the Navy I was stationed over in Australia. Exmouth at the Naval comm station there, in WA. Loved the country, the people, the lifestyle. Good on you mate!
Regards,

Re: 2012 Wiring Harness Question
That's about the only piece of Australia I haven't visited.
Been around southern WA and Northern WA, just have to do the middle bit.
One day I'll ride a lap of the island.
I think the Gen3 is a worthy upgrade, so you really do have a decision to make.
I was a bit surprised how "ad hoc" the gen 3 wiring is, no reports of any problems yet, touch wood !

Re: 2012 Wiring Harness Question
Depending on the bike's price, farkel list and condition, if they are anywhere close I'd get a Gen III. Why? Love the cruise control. Heated grips aren't bad either.
10K or even 20K pretty much mean someone broke the bike in for you. That goes for both Gen II and III.
