Sloppy/loose saddlebags

Post by jsaul53 »

One of my saddlebags fits snugly and doesn't move around when I touch with my hand to check it is on correctly. The other saddlebag is on properly but moves more than I think it should. Is there anything to check or verify if something is missing creating this sloppiness?

Thanks in advance....

Seated properly in the holes?

Are you missing the bottom rubber piece?

I will have to take another look but both sides looked the same but doesn't hurt to look again.

Just back from the garage and no lost rubber. Both sides look identical.

Both my FJR's have a sloppy fit. Haven't lost a bag yet.

Jsaul, take your bags off and close the handle. Measure how far each tab sticks out. If the loose one is shorter than the more snug one, your rachet deal has skipped a tooth. Rare, but has happened before, and may be related to lost bags.

If your tabs are the same height, it's just normal. They all move around some. If your concerned enough, you can do the lock-pin mod, witch will ensure they will not fall off while riding.

Both my 04 and my 13 have had loose bags. Ride more, worry less.

BTW, I kinda like having a sloppy bag myself...

The bags were loose on my '05. I took some felt weatherstripping material and padded the bottoms of the two upper "pockets" that the bags' hooks go into, effectively lifting the bags up a millimeter or two. Then, when I latched the bags onto the bike I could feel some resistance of the tab projecting up into the lower center pocket. No more looseness.

FWIW my 3rd Gen's bags are pretty snug with no felt.

YMMV
