While taking part in a Team Lyle Rally in GA, I had 5mph fender bender where i ran into a car (right rear bumper area) while on Gas station property. For some reason the brakes didn't stick - weird clicky noises - jerky brakes and BUMP! No major damage except broken rt front foot rest. Otherwise cosmetic scratches.
Long story short, Progressive appraised and has paid for the repair. But I believe it may be overkill on the replacements authorized, based on the extent of damage.
List of parts authorized:
Front Fender Panel
L Front Lower Cowl Panel
Motovation Frame Slider
Left Mirror
Left front signal lamp assy
Front wheel (! - small scratch on the wheel)
Ceebailey Headlamp guard
Roadtec Z6 120/70 front Tire (nothing wrong - no scratches, no tears)
Right footrest bracket
Right front foot rest
Left front foot rest (nothing wrong - not even a scratch)
Left outer front suspension fork tube (a 1.5 inch scratch on the tube)
Front cowl panel assy
Right exhaust muffler (minor superficial scratches)
Left exhaust muffler (minor superficial scratches)
Questions:
Should I just go ahead and have the Yamaha dealer replace all the yamaha parts as listed? Aftermarket stuff (ceeBaileys. motovation) I can install myself.
Is the wheel and tire necessary?
Exhaust muffler - If I do decide to replace mufflers, should I look at any aftermarket pipes as replacement. Any recommendations?
It's up to you. If you can and want to do the work, you can save the labor. And, if something is OK by your standards then don't replace it and keep the cash for more fuel, oil, and future tires. That's what I did when I crashed some years ago.
My wife asked me why I speak so softly around the house. I said that I was worried that someone was listening. She laughed, I laughed, Alexa laughed.
Might take the opportunity to swap out sliders for Canyon Cage and also look at swapping out the Exhaust - but confusing to decide on which ones.
Thanks for your response.

What he said. :roll
I end up sending some cash to Garmin
I would do any repairs using parts I sourced (new or used) to get the job done, and of course do all the work personally. It will come in well under estimates. More importantly, I would try to replicate the attempted stop and see what is going on with the brakes or ABS. You do not want a repeat, and you should exhaustively test the braking system.

Sounds like you found a patch of spilt diesel/brake fluid/coolant, your ABS did its thing, probably saved you from hitting harder or going down faster.

I bet you can live with the scratched wheel.
Yup. That's what I ended up doing. Thanks!
Splashed out on Canyon Cages too.

I thought that too at the time. Strangely though there were no spills or any kind. I completed rest of the Team Lyle Rally - about 100+ miles - scraping through with the minimum mandatory points and with 5mins to spare! The brakes worked fine. One of those 'X-files' like thing, I guess.
