Oxford heated grip install - with a G2 tube. :(

Took some time this morning to take the last step in my heated grip installation. All of the easy stuff was done - that was the wiring. This was the installation of the actual grips. The left grip went on like butter - no issues. The right grip was a bit trickier. First of all I have a G2 tube on the bike - a nice knurled Aluminum tube. The Oxford heated grip was not flexible at all. It was a very tight fit. That whole thing about stick some air under there and it just slips on - not so much. Now the shop I was at had lots of tools available so ideas were flying like crazy. I am glad some flew away. We ended up chamfering the leading edge a bit. We even used a ball hone to open the ID a little. The real difference maker was the PVC that we slipped over the grip - this gave the ability to provide some additional force to drive the grip on. To say the least no adhesives were involved - nor were they needed. There were at least three instances of inappropriate remarks being made during the honing process - that in my opinion is low hanging fruit. Get a grip on yourselves.

On the ride home they warmed up nicely. Luckily we got to 35 degrees in Texas last night so I could really give them a try. This new set of oxfords marked adventure are the same length as the stockers - maybe even a little trimming could be done. No gap and an intelligent controller. I am very happy with the installation. Sure beats the heck out of the almost $400 price tag for OEMs. My total cost was under $100.

I also have Oxford Heated Grips and a G2 Throttle tube. I mangled the tube trying to grind down the knurling and the guys at G2 took pity on me and sold me one with less knurling at an inexpensive price. All good now.

I highly recommend both, but get in touch with G2 directly to get the tube modified before you buy it.
