Gen III TBS

Post by bungie4 »

Holy sweet merciful shit is that a pain in the ass.

Lift tank
Remove T-Bar
Remove screw for heat shield. Trust me, this is a bear.
Remove heat shield.
Spend 8 seconds looking for rubber plugs on the vacuum ports.
Spend an hour looking for the air adjustment screws.
Realize they now point towards the BACK of the bike.
Realize again you need an offset screwdriver than can bend in 7 dimensions to adjust the screws.
Run to Princess Auto, spend $15 for a flexy shaft screwdriver.
Get home and realize, that $15 was wasted.
Use a short jewelers screwdriver instead.
Run out of gas doing sync thinking you smoked your engine.
Dump a couple of liters into it.
PHEW
Reverse disassembly.
While reassembling, drop one of the rubber vacuum caps into the void.
Panic. Because the Yammie dealer parts counter closes at noon on Sat.
Go to industrial outlet. Ask Jean-Guy Rubberboots for part. He comes out with a cap that is bigger than your head.
Ask him for one that would fit over his dick.
Comes out with the right one.
Change oil and filter.
Change rear pumpkin loob.

Bike runs sweet! They weren't far out at 16500km. But it did make a noticable difference.

Celebrate by riding in the sweet spot for 200km. Bike is ready for my Finger Lakes/Adirondacks trip next week.

Funny, lol lol.

I was lucky, they were all perfect throughout the rev range, phew.
Was thinking how hard is was going to be if I had to adjust up the TB's

Little tip: I marked the location of the adjustment screws on the fuel rail using a sharpie. Makes finding them much easier with the tank propped up.

Oh ya, little tip part deux: The GenIII's are synced against the number 1 cylinder (on the clutch side of the bike). Not the 3rd cylinder.

Shit you notice - Took a look for the throttle plate linkage to do an Unauthorized TBS. Ya. No. It's no longer even visible, it's mounted UNDER the throttle bodies now.
