You've gotten too many warm hugs in your life Im guessing, based on the seventeen FJRs in your various garages. Maybe a proctologist will wipe that goofy look off yer face. and cure what ails ya.SkooterG wrote: ↑Sat Mar 15, 2025 9:03 pmSure..... Followed directions and bled all hydraulic circuits. Rear Brake restored to full and firm operation, front and Clutch all good, JREW was on top of his maintenance before he sold it to Festar.
Rode the FJR to coffee with the Black Hills BMW Riders - a nice 106 mile round trip, down to Rapid City on I-90 and back through the hills on curvy roads, still a little sand here and there. It is always fun to ride on new tires!

Hard rain Friday night washed the salt off the roads. Saturday first ride of the year, rode it to an Appliance store to look at washing machines. Checked forecast, no rain until 9 pm. By 3 pm had only gotten rained on 3 times. Dang it.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
Continued spring maintenance on the 17ES. Today I cleaned with windshield and center stand better than a usual wash. Decided to remove the lower shock mount and inspect for corrosion.
The lower shock mount bolt was mostly dry but clean.

Next I removed the dog bone bolt attached to the swing arm. The bolt had some white powered on it.

I noticed pivoting the relay arm exposed just enough clearance to remove the relay arm center bolt, so off it came.

All the bolts were mostly dry. All the collars were clean.
Cleaned up the surrounding area, applied lithium grease on all the collars and bolts then put it all back together.
So I get 3/4 bolts removed and inspected. Given it was pretty clean in there I will skip the upper relay arm bolt. Good enough.
Now just stay out of the White Pine Scenic Byway in Idaho for a while where is water running across from snow melt because is laced with a chloride from snow clearing operations.

I removed the collars, lubed the outside diameter, then installed the collars. I didn't want to mess with those bearings and risk unseating them from their waxy home.

That shouldn't be a problem. And on some of the bearings it is a metal cage. I always pack the bearings well with grease.fontanaman wrote: ↑Sat Mar 22, 2025 2:26 pmI removed the collars, lubed the outside diameter, then installed the collars. Thanks Scooter that is good to know. Since the collars were very clean I wasn't concern about the bearings and have seen photos on a web site somewhere of needle bearings in persons hand. I didn't want replicate those results!SkooterG wrote: ↑Sat Mar 22, 2025 4:21 pmThat shouldn't be a problem. And on some of the bearings it is a metal cage.
