Our winters probably average colder than yours but are more variable. We can end out with several consecutive days of well below 0°F temperatures followed by rain and +45°F - and then back to freezing all within a week or two. They use sodium chloride here and if there is more than a trace I won't take a bike out. Occasionally, we'll get a heavy rainfall followed by drying conditions and unseasonably mild for a day or two between late December and the end of February. I usually look to the middle of March for my first official ride of the new season - anything before that is just a freak bonus. Nice ride with a fellow FJR-er through southern Virginnie. Leaves looking great, lots of backroads for the first time. A leisurely 250 mile day and good lunch in Bassett, VA.

Took my too-short secondhand Cee Bailey shield off. Too much helmet buffeting. Put my Aeroflow large on.
Tested my new photochromic visor. It’s superb. Gets super dark, super fast. They should make these for every helmet.

I find with the Neotech ll, that I am flipping the internal sun visor up and down throughout the day. Particularly when entering the curvy roads that are shaded. Then you come out into bright sun, and I have to flip it back down. I had photochromic lenses on my glasses, but did not like how long they took to lighten up when coming inside, especially when cold. Maybe they have improved the products these days. Several years ago we were headed from Alamosa NM to Alpine AZ in late March. It got dark and cold (mid-30s) both my glasses and my visor were dark from the cold. I had to ride with my shield open to see anything, Kip Walker rode in front and we came real close to a big bull elk that I probably wouldn't have seen if I was in the lead.
I now carry a Pinlock-equipped clear helmet visor when riding in the shoulder seasons in case I get caught out after dark.
Photochromatic Visor + Pinlock + Photochromatic glasses + cold = Dark!

Pinlock makes a photochromatic version but it hasn't made it to the USA yet. That would be a great product.

That could be helpful - use a clear visor and swap out the Pinlock as needed. I used to carry a spare pinlock in an old sock to protect it from scratching. They are very soft.

I find the Shoei sunshades a little too dark... that is, now. I had been using my AGV Carbon which has a much lighter sunshade. At first it seemed too light, but in reality, it is good for most conditions. If it were just a wee tad darker, it would be ideal.
I once had a Chinese visor on my Neotec 1 that was a gradual tint from top to bottom and quite light also. I usually have my visor cracked open a notch... and could vary the tint by moving the visor up and down a notch either way..... I loved the damned thing for taking the edge off, and if really bright out, then one could use the helmet sunshade too. Can't get one for my Neotec 2.
A clear visor will likely (should) prevent the pinlock or your transition glasses from going all that dark as the UV can't get through. A buddy wears those glasses and they don't tint down very much with a clear visor.... only when he opens it.

Changed the Engine Oil and Filter on the FJR. She's ready to go.
4700 miles on the RS4s now - the rear should go to 6500. The front is PERFECTLY round - ZERO scalloping what so ever. I'm liking it.

I got a dark shield from Japan for my Shoei helmet. Since my GT AIr has a dropdown visor, Shoei USA does not sell the dark shield stateside. Something about liability concerns.
I bet you are correct in that you can get it elsewhere.

That decision by SHOEI is the chief reason I was blinded by the morning sun eastbound on Warwoman in March of 2020. Exactly one year after my bad crash I was blinded as the flip down shade did zilch for me. It literally was a whiteout, not glare, A whiteout...in one of the twisty sections. Ended up off the road and broke some ribs. What hurt worse was damaging the pristine Jwilly Special. Since it was close enough to home and I refused the ambulance, Louanne came out and drove me home. She vowed that after two accidents in a year's time, she would not be riding on the back anymore. And I didn't blame her a bit.
I talked with Jason and Lee and they gave me a website from Japan, I think, that had a dark shield I could put on the GT Air. That dark shield is what I needed on that bitter day. I had no issues with getting a dark shield on my SHOEI RFxxxx helmets.

Nah. I wear bifocals. At the time of the accident, I assumed that the flip down would be enough as it seemed to be a legal thing. It was enough, until it failed me miserably.
