Highs in the upper 50s and lows in the lower 30s would mean I would need to throw the 450 in the truck for the 170 mile trip down.
I left Wednesday about 11am after getting some school work done. We are on fall break so I had all week but with my youngest son playing football games on Monday and Fridays, I am squeezed all little. There I’ll be time to ride when he is done playing. I am glad I was there to see him play.
Anyway, on to the pics.
Tuesday night before I left, a plan was hatched. Make more then we could eat and I would be forced to eat the leftovers.
Got my camp set up as soon as I got there. $23 bucks per night with water, electric, hot showers, picnic tables, good fire ring, secluded sites, and plenty of good people.
I made my fire and set to heat up my dinner.
I had a fire all night at just relaxed as most others were not coming in I iron later in the week. For those of you on ADV Rider, you may know the name BigDog, he has been a tremendous ambassador to motorcycle riding. He and his lovely wife came over to my fire and I got to spend some quality time with him.
The next morning I still had coals as expected so I made my breakfast.
The fire was two fold. One to make food and the other to knock off the chill in the 30s at day break.
The tracks were set up to head south
I was riding solo so stopping anywhere I wanted was easy.
I didn’t stop much as the tracks were 190 miles and I knew I was gonna put some more miles in.
Down along the Ohio River North
East of Tell City, I found some scenic spots.
Back up on the bluff, some color and light allowed me to take a pic after a bio break. I saw so few cars the whole day.
Along the river I was buzzing and vibing to the music. I blew right by this and knew I had to stop.

Plenty of river traffic near the locks.
I notice the GPS says only 320ft before the locks. Interesting to me that this far north and the water level is so close to sea level.
Down a little further I recognized a place someone recommended.
Exactly the kind of place these adventure rides are built for.
I can feel Pants’ energy from all the way down the river. And here is where a tiny part of our friendship dies. Lol.
I passed on the ice cream after such a disappointing meal and trying to stay healthy. I wasn’t sure what dairy would do to my gut after this long of hiatus.
Part of my new food choices are to exclude carbs and minimally processed food. I know I am likely missing out, but it’s been 10 weeks and I feel so much better. I ordered the firecracker burger and a side of home made BBQ.
IT WAS GROSS. I threw more than 3/4 of it away. Oh well, I supported a local business.
Back toward the north, I don’t think I am where I think I am.
A keen eye will see the pen raised beef. There were plenty of these places. Along with numerous turkey and chicken farms, the smells were less than pleasant.
Signs like this don’t give me a good feeling either.
Back to the good stuff.
The gravel on the 2nd half of the ride on the east side of the track was much better.
I detoured to what I thought was a grocery store according to the GPS. It didn’t exist and I had to just grab couple all natural beef brats from a local butcher/game processor.
I also found my breakfast for Friday. These were amazing. I wish I could have taken some back home.
We got together with some of the riders and George, shown here on the T-7 has extensive experience in the areas and he led us around to some of the best stuff.
I know a guy who likes bridges.
Careful placement of kickstands is necessary.
My buddy Darrell and his 450 likes wheelies as much as I do. Gotta be a Honda thing.
We headed over to the town of Shoals
This is way out there into the river on the rocks
There was mill of some type here many years ago. Supposedly a large community also but was washed away.
The square posts holes in the rock held the lumber the mill was erected on.
The beauty shot was all 3 of the 450s on the ride. We told all the other garbage bike owners to get out of frame. lol.
I ride with the group another 30 miles before I headed back to get packed up in time to get back to my son’s game. I enjoyed the solitude of the last hour by myself and 3 hours in the truck.
My son played a little in the game and did well in reserve duty after the outcome was determined.
I washed the bike and put away the camping gear today. The riding season is closing soon but I still have hope for a few more excursions.
