What did you do to your FJR today?

... love the Dunlop Roadsmart 4's. Just crazy how good they are.

I agree - they are really (REALLY) good. Much more compliant than the RS3s, wet and dry grip is excellent, and me thinks I'll get 30-ish % more miles out of them.

I haven't checked my exact milage but it's close to 9,000. The front is scalloping some but looks like it has 4,000 miles or more left in tread depth. The back, I'm not sure. The center is obviously getting thinner but the sides have a LOT of tread left. I'm hitting a spot where I can't tell how much is left in the center to be safe. I'm sure I can easily get another 1,000 miles out of the back. That'll put them at 10,000 miles on a set. I'm cool for that.

Already picked up a replacement rear on sale last month. Will grab a front in the weeks ahead.

You are right, seems a bit low to me. They must actually be riding on turns from time to time.

With RS III, I used to get two fronts to three rears. Too early to tell with the RS IV. I only have 7,000 km on them so far. (4400 mi)

If I can get 30% more on the RS4 than the RS3, that means the rear should go to almost 8,000.

The last time I had an FJR rear tire go that far was the Michelin PR2 days....

Got a throttle cable today. At a FYB tech day I was told I was going to die a fiery death because my cables were on top of the water pipe instead of underneath it. Mofos ganged up on me, oh yeah you better change that soon..

Was that way for 10 years, and a year and a half since !!??

I ordered new front brake pads. After 67,000 miles, a couple of the pads on the left side are almost gone. I'll be installing them later in the week so I'll be able to stop or at least slow down once in a while.

Uneven wear is the norm for me. It's why I'll swap my front brake pads around once a yr or so, to even out the wear and get lots more miles from individual pads. Easy enough to do with a tire change.

I'll swap pads once I get a new set on there. I used to do that with the pads on my 2008. I bought this bike with 45,000 miles on it. The pads were already worn unequally to the point I wasn't going to mess with them. I got 2 cross country rides on those overly worn pads. Time for new ones.

Some people have reported excessive rotor wear, but I have not found that to be the case.

I bought the EBC HH pads a couple months ago. I don't think they are 1/2 the price any longer. When I priced out the Yamaha and then the EBC, I think the EBC was only a little cheaper at the time. I think the Yamaha was about $160.

The front set was $137 in EBC.

I bought the EBC HH pads a couple months ago. I don't think they are 1/2 the price any longer. When I priced out the Yamaha and then the EBC, I think the EBC was only a little cheaper at the time. I think the Yamaha was about $160.

When I priced them the last time (a couple of years ago), the price per package was similar BUT EBC had four pads per package (2 pkg needed) and Yamaha had two pads per package. I will check again before I buy my next set but it will probably be a year from now. For a difference of $23, I would probably get OEM.

I probably extend lifetime by 50% by swapping them around anytime I have the front wheel off. (I extend and clean pistons as well as clean caliper and lube sliders with every tire change - sometimes more often if they look bad)

Not in my experience, although I have heard claims of this happening. I have used them for over 100,000 km on each of two FJRs and never had to replace a rotor. YMMV
Carbone Lorraine pads have been reported to be problematic as well.

Last time I cleaned up the brakes and moved pads around I took the time to clean all the holes in the rotors. No, don't laugh. I used a cordless drill that I chucked a 6mm bronze bore brush in. 1 pass in and out of each hole did the trick. You would not believe the amount of pad residue and filth that came out of those three rotors. Can't hurt to get all that crap out of there. Never seen this suggested anywhere before.
