Re: Smoky Honda NX500 baby adv plays dress up
I have those on my CBF1000...... all you need is power and ground, switched preferrable. What you'll find is the grips are very tight to the handlebar making installation a little difficult. A smidge more inner diameter would help. I chamfered the leading edge but doesn't help much. Might help to turn them on high and let them warm up....... They come with end caps if you don't want/have bar end weights. Get them started, then you need to install the end caps (hard plastic), then tap them on say 3/4 the way with a rubber hammer. I watched a video where a guy did just that, and yep, I had to do it too.
Orient the left grip the way you want it, right grip so the wire exits without interfering with anything as you rotate throttle.... I recommend not directly beside the turn signal switch, as it is easy to turn them on inadvertently when pushing the turn signal button, so rotate the grip switch slightly upward of that.
Now time for glue... the crazy glue they supply will stay "wet" for a little bit, just long enough for you to pound the grips home. Note, you may drip on too much glue, so put a towel below it. Once it hits plastic, the drips won't come off, DAMHIK.
They work great, but not the hottest. Certainly acceptable though, I do recommend them. Consider handguards to block the wind in the cold stuff.......

Re: Smoky Honda NX500 baby adv plays dress up
Thank you sir Ray for a boat load of tips. Handgaurds are already on site.
Clueless about switchable power. Will have to do some digging. It is a distant memory but I think a video may have mentioned an unused switched plug under the seat. If I'm not mixing things up with a DR.
I surely appreciate your help.

Re: Smoky Honda NX500 baby adv plays dress up
The PC8 is great, and the smallest format. Do you need all those circuits is the question..... I'd say yes if running heated gear, gps, accessory lighting, however, if you only need one circuit, you might be able to install a fuse tap (available almost anywhere).... it simply plugs into an existing fuse, and makes two fuses... keep the original and the other is for the lead wire for your grips. The grips I believe only take 5 amps.
On an FJR there is a separate Hazard fuse, the ideal spot for a fuse tap. Dunno whatcha got on the NX as a place to plug in a fuse tap......

Scroll down.
Looking at the 4CS fuse panel. (replaces the former 3CS)
With a splitter, it leaves the under seat auxiliary plug available plus there is another aux plug near the headlight. More than I'd ever need.
FEATURES:
- 1 Un-switched circuit for battery charging, and power when bike is off
- 3 switched circuits go on and off with the bike
- each circuit has a 10A max capacity, total kit max capacity is 30A

The DR's switched plug is under the headlight fairing. Hoping that means you are not mixing things up - for accessories of all kinds, "under the seat" is better IMO.spklbuk wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 11:54 am Thank you sir Ray for a boat load of tips. Handgaurds are already on site.

Further research yielded that (on the newer CBXs at least) there is a switched aux plug under the seat and a second under the front cowling. And that Eastern Beaver has a specific CBX 4CS matching harness designed to ride just fore of the battery, 3 switched, 1 hot. All I will ever likely need.
Nothing has been confirmed by peeking under the NX seat but that will be managed before pushing the add to cart button...but it still says CBX on the serial number so I'm optimistic.

For the curious.
Dead on narrative of the NX500. Best summation I've seen.

SRC was not far off their mid-July availability estimate. I received an email the day they arrived at their shop. Shipped that day. Excellent personalized customer service.
Uppers, lowers, radiator guard and a boatload of hardware. Skid plate, rear rack and kickstand foot plate already on site. I'm suddenly running short of excuses.

Re: Smoky Honda NX500 baby adv plays dress up
If only it was simple.
Someone has to unearth my shop bay that has been neglected since the SHTF. It is currently crammed with likewise neglected machines and parts in dire need of service and use. It's about 1/3 accomplished since UPS showed up earlier today.
Arrival of major parts might sustain a flame.
Tomorrow I will yet again be involved with the continuing havoc my parents left behind at their place and I try not to over think the mountain that remains to be dealt with here. Still waiting for an overdue letter of estate settlement from the county. And then there's all her possessions...phuuck. Time is not yet my own. Seems like it may never be.
I said short of excuses, not out.
You asked.

Thanks guys. Y'all would die laughing at the primitive shop stuff I make do with. I'll manage though it may be Spring. No worries. Perhaps we can then gather for something a whole lot more fun like riding. A go ride with Jim weekend...week. And no worries Ray, we'll still eat good, like ramp Shakshuka with doe steak mebbe.

I can't make a sarcastic quip about attending Jim's "Tech Day". The invite has been more than open for a while. The bluff has been called and played quite well. It's time for Pants to either act or STFU.
But if I were going to offer a dumbass remark, it would be that "I'd do it just to meet the Head of Security". JSNS....

Project will emerge from the embers this winter...hopefully.
