Exploring fancy farkle$. No decisions have been made. $everal candidates in the running including this cage available in mid-July. SRC Moto (Oregon) also has a center stand compatible skid plate and a BeefY tail rack for the NX500. Hoping they plan a radiator guard too. They have a suite of CB500X farkles.

Yeah, a center stand is a candidate too...cheap ass Honda corporate 😫

Really like the SRC skid plate on my green KLX squirt, fwiw.

Anyone familiar with this outfit based in Sterling, VA? They sell all kinds of moto goodies across a broad swipe of bikes. And are an official USA Hepco-Becker distributor. Looks similar to Twisted Throttle.

Depends how budget-conscious you are. AliExpress has some interesting stuff for that bike including radiator guard, headlight guard, TFT screen protector, sidestand enlarger, engine guards, custom paint protection film, hand guards, tank pad, footpegs etc. I have found some of their stuff to be very good (on my F700GS) and very low cost. Worth having a look...

I got the Hepco & Becker rack for my Super Tenere from them without issue, but didn't deal with them directly. They supplied the rack that was part of the Caribou Cases kit I'd ordered.

Awesome, for a different reason.... it was too expensive to order stuff from HB in Europe for my CBF1000. Even though the bike was never sold in the US, I can now get stuff for it from Motomachines? Awesome, just saved me some dough.

First farkle not so sparkly but amazingly functional. No where's Waldo?

Joey and Jason, thanks for planting a seed for starting with the seat. While researching solutions, an Airhawk ad popped up, triggering a memory. I went on the hunt for my cruiser phase storage bin and sure enough, a medical-grade gel pad turned up.
A blue bird sky prompted an early day test run. Fits my sit bones almost like a custom fitment. And very neutral seating, no more forward push. Knees and butt way more comfy. Foot controls access is fine. Reach to the ground A-OK. Astounded by the degree of improved comfort! So much so that combined with a 1-inch up and an ambidextrous 1-inch fore òr aft handlebar riser block, I may well be looking at all day comfort!

Now first farkle monies can go where I'd rather...pilot and bike protection. Awaiting the aftermarket to catch up on the bike protection. Have been told mid-July ballpark, so not a long wait.
An aside, I feel a little naked in street motorcycle garb. But the good news is that my relatively fresh mesh riding britches no longer stay up rather, they now fall right off my hips! That there is a damn fine first world problem!

Next experiment...is there enough adjustment in the shift lever to allow use of my dual sport boots??? 🤔

Out to wash and fluff my "new" kick azz fluffy seat cushy cover. 🤙

Nope. 80 grit chip seal. You know the kind. A man's got to know his limitations, eh? I remember when it was gravel, btw.

And if this morning's result is real, pending more data, I am officially having a ball!

NX500 full suite due at SRC in mid-July. CBX farkles that crossover available now but would mean tear down and reassembly for some.

The suite pic doesn't even include the cra$h bars. SRC makes some good stuff.

The dog eats better than me. I have to raise more garden if this farkle thing is gonna work out.

Out early to beat the heat and to get to know Ms. Smoky a little more. The historic James River and Kanawha Turnpike over Little Sewell Mountain was first up. No pics as too much fun was afoot.
Big Sewell along the Midland Trail was the next logical choice.

Pretty little thing showing off her versatility as we began to close the loop.

Gratuitous glamour.
Image

Ms. Smoky and this old man began to gel this morning. The Midland Trail reach made me appreciate the up and back footpeg position as I settled into a long forgotten sporty tuck. Controls and engine braking working harmoniously had the eager Ms. Smoky singing. Patience little girl, another 350 miles and first service, then you can go full on operatic.
Back in the barn and a couple of miles past first fill up, this screen widened a grin. When I set her back upright at the gas station, the low fuel warning light had triggered with one bar remaining.
Image
Image

First farkle decisions made while out today. A 1-inch up and aft block handlebar riser and a 1/2-inch rise kickstand foot plate order going out forthwith. Rumors of a couple of oversized items also on the way are floating about.

I believe the easy going nimble Ms. Smoky and me are gonna get along just fine.

The best part of running away for a little while is coming home. Ms. Reese makes that certain.

71 mpg! Wow - that's impressive and one could opine that the CPU is still in "break in" rich mode. Perhaps once you find the right side of the tachometer, things might level off.

So - now that we've (presumably) established that Ms. Smokey is a keeper, what about the rest of the stable? Keeping both the mini-Kawi AND the Bush Pig? If the CB is going to be the road bike, then the overlap between all 3 seems not so much. If the CB is going off pavement, then the overlap is considerable.

OTOH - having backup is a good idea.....
