A flat white is a coffee drink similar to a latte but with less milk and milk foam. The name 'flat white’ comes from the fact that when this coffee drink is made correctly, it should be topped with a ‘flat’ layer of steamed milk. This top layer of ‘microfoam’ should be not too thick, not too thin.

The "Flat White" refers to an espresso coffee ☕️- two shots of espresso topped with about an equal amount of steamed milk with no foam (hence the "flat")in an 8 oz cup. 😋

Sunday 23 June - Festar, JREW and I left Spearfish at 0800. Flat Whites in Buffalo WY.

We were all tired after a hot day.
Cloud Peak Skyway (US 16), Shell Canyon (US 14) Burgess Junction US 14A, Chief Joseph Parkway (WY 296), Beartooth Pass in a gale. 558.5 miles in 10 hours 15 minutes - 0800 - 1815.

Saw 105f a few times. Detoured over Chief Joseph and Beartooth to get out of the heat. Cool here in Red Lodge now. FYB and Gary here as well. Whiskey with Intech (FYB) and VABikebreaker(Gary) while we shot the chit until 2230.

Monday - 24 June up early and Headed to Pterodactyl’s "Outpost" at 0700. Beautiful ride up MT 78 to Columbus, I-90 West 60 miles to US 89, US 12 to Townsend MT then up the East side of Canyon Ferry Reservoir to the Canyon Ferry Dam before cutting west to Helena.

Image
Sunday and Mondays tracks

Arrived at noon. Did 22K service on my GSA,
Image

I t
then helped finish another 12K service on VABikebreaker's R1250RS. Checked valves and replaced the air filter.

We took Kevin and Annie to supper at the Mediterranean Grill in Helena (no phone/no pix)

We part ways with the others tomorrow as Festar and I are heading back to Eureka MT for a respite, then on to Lake Country BC for a day of riding with another old friend.

Stay tuned.

Tuesday 25 June - Huddy's Outpost to Eureka MT - 260 miles, 5 hours

We left the Out post about 1000 in company with John Wilson (JREW)
Image
Two absolutely great riding partners!

We headed North over Fletcher PASS then West on MT 200 where Festar and I turned North on MT 83 and JREW continued West to US 12 and the Lolo Pass.

Image

MT 83 runs along the edge of some pretty lakes

Image

Image

We crossed the Flathead River.

Image

And then headed North West to Eureka MT in the extreme NW corner of MT.

Image

Staying with our friends Bobbi & Mike who son after we arrived had us on the waters of Lake Koocanusa.

Image

Image

Image

After boating we hit a local joint for burgers and beer.

Tomorrow we cross into Canada and head for Lake Country BC for another visit and a promised ride in Thursday.

Stay tuned.

Wednesday - June 26, Eureka MT to Lake Country BC
413 miles - two Flat Whites - 8 hours 30 minutes

Image

We left Eureka MT at 0800, stopped for gas and then crossed the border into Canada.

As always the mountains in Canada are exceptionally beautiful.

Image

First stop was for a Flat White in Jaffray BC.
Good coffee, good Blueberry Muffin, good Ham and cheese Bun and a good Sausage Roll - bad pictures.

From Jaffray we followed Canada 3 West before turning North on Canada 33 to Kelowna BC.

Just before our turn north we stopped for another Flat White, this time with Butter Tarts. Festar thought the Butter Tarts were too sweet, but still are better than biscuits and gravy :)

Image

I thought both the coffee and the tart was damn fine.

All day we ran in threatening skies and encountered a few sprinkles from time to time, never enough to really call rain. Temps were generally in the low to mid 60s f.

Image

We arrived at our friends house in Lake Country BC about 1630.

We soon were enjoying a beer and the view!

Image

Tomorrow a relaxing 300 mile jaunt around the Okanagon area.

Stay tuned!

You likely know to take Hwy. 6 east and make your way to Nakusp, then back down to Kaslo, then to Balfour.... ferry across Kootenay Lake and 3A down the east side of the lake...

And a great off bike day is a Kelowna wine tour. My wife and I enjoyed a wine tour in Kelowna a couple of years ago. It was our very good fortune to be joined by newlyweds from Ireland and a couple from Holland. What a hoot!

Unfortunately, Festar's schedule does not allow fir a day off wine tour. We rode 300 miles today with Dave and friends. Details follow. Festar flies home Tuesday, we need to get back to Spearfish Saturday.

27 June - Lake Country BC - 289 miles of local beauty.

Image

Festar, Dave (FastJoyRide) and I met five other riders for Breakie and a ride.

WEAX necessitated riding to the West so we did. Lots of local roads and secret good places were covered.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image
Despite Dave's best efforts and extensive local knowledge we couldn't escape all the WEAX, thankfully it was in the form of showers and not torrential downpours.

Image

Festar had to settle for Timmy's closest approximation for his "Flat White". The string remains unbroken.

Image

A great bunch of guys to ride with.
Image

Early tomorrow morning we will leave Lake Country and take the scenic route to Helena. Looks like 10-11 hours and ~600 miles.

Stay tuned - Friday may be a three Flat White day!

Dave must have incredible powers because every time I've been up there, there's been some scattered gullywasher... which is also typical here in summertime as well. Typical mountain climate.
