I like entering Jellystone at Gardiner Mt, then head to Lamar Valley to watch tourist behave stupidity around Bison. It is not crowded and very entertaining when tourist get stupid. Darwin is not far away while my sympathy is.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
Saturday, I left the house early in the morning while the temperatures were still tolerable. Took a very familiar 100 mile route through the back country. Enjoyed the solitude while the rest of the world slept in from their busy work week and/or Friday night escapades. Home by 10 am, with clear exhaust ..... and a clear head.

Today I will ride the FJR on the Quincy Oroville Hwy aka Buck's Lake road, the LaPorte road, then Hwy 49 to Nevada City. These are some the best roads in Northern California.
It will be a great day on the FJR.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
Looked at the leak on the left front speedbleeder. After tightening the other day and spraying off with brake cleaner, it shows a small leak still. Pulled off the rubber cap and it was full of brake fluid. I believe it has not been leaking from the threads, but, did leak slightly from not being tight enough. When I cleaned it up after tightening the other day, I just sprayed it off and wiped it down. I did not pull the cap off. So, all cleaned up now. Will see if the leak is taken care of. Took a ride to do some errands and took the scenic route. Going to miss this while recovering from knee replacement.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
I enjoyed some high Sierra Mountain riding today. Rode from Auburn, CA, to Wentworth Springs road, great pavement, to Ice House Road, then east on Hwy 50, crowded but has short passing lanes for exercising the right wrist with the FJR in Sport mode and the highlight of the day Ebbets Pass, Hwy 88, great scenery and pavement. A few photos.
After sampling several roads in California and witnessing construction work I think all the asphalt paved roads in Washington State moved to California! Pavement is pretty darn good here.
More Sierra Mountain riding tomorrow. Oh darn. Retirement is a blast.

Looking at that last picture, it would appear that you were going to try those RS4s in "dual sport mode". IIRC, we only have "tour or sport" in the FJR, no?

I should have left that photo out as the dirt road became a local point instead of the twisty pavement. Instead of the PC I am using the phone to edit images. It is notmearly as good or as easy as the PC. Need to rethink this.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
After riding Hwy 50 Echo Summit, Hwy 88 Carson Pass, Hwy 4 Ebbetts Pass, Hwy 89 Monitor Pass and Hwy 108 Sonora Pass, all great high Sierra Passes are pass blasting at it's best.
My favorites are Hwy 88 for its great twisty endless turns, Hwy 108 Sonora Pass for remoteness, Hwy 89 Monitor Pass for scenery and just a darn fun road, Hwy 4 Ebbetts Pass for remoteness and technical pavement and Hwy 50 which is just plain crowded.
Stopped at a vista to strip a layer early in the morning. It was 70-80 in the mountains today.
In June 2003 I was on Sonora Pass and shot this photo. One of my all time favorites
Today, June 2024, I shot this photo at roughly the same place just for fun. The photo from 21 years ago is still better.
Don't need guardrails we got trees.
Nuts to Yosemite and Hwy 120 to the south. Timed entry pass and crowds are a drag. Come here for the great scenery same kind of rock and same kinda of trees, just less famous.
The summit. Later in the day I was at elevation 133 feet.
And it does go down very quickly.
I got some decent photos right out of the camera today.
Monitor Pass one of my favorite places. Been here quite a few times starting in the mid '80s. This what the FJR is made for. And the pavement is perfect.
My favorite type of signs. And I am always on the lookout for a person who can't read with a rigs stuck in the backwoods.
This is Hwy 4, Ebbetts Pass where the pavement doesn't have a center strip and the quality is not as good as most roads. The scenery makes up for these shortcomings.
Scenery!
Remove the FJR.
One last photo.
I descended from the mountains to Lodi, (Stuck In Lodi Again - Creedence), and spend about 2 hours in 100° heat. I am in Fairfield California where I will meet with Tyler's group at 10:00 am at a Starbucks and kickstands up at 11:00. Tyler created a very nice route. Tomorrow it will be 5° warmer than today. So I am going to bag in the route an drive directly to the group's hotel Ukiah, do not pass go, do not collect $200, but what I will get is a two hour ride instead of four hour ride and some pool time! This plan may piss off somebody but when it 100° riding the FJR isn't a great time.

Photoshop. That was a cruddy job, it took about 30 seconds to open it and do it. If you wanted it to really look good, it would have taken a couple more minutes.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
Thanks for the kind words Mark. I enjoy weaving in the photos from the past and someday when I ride the High Sierra's again I will have a point of reference.
Festus is a smart man he knows Photoshop. I am pretty good with a PC and software but Photoshop is a whole nuther level of complicated.
Stuck in Lodi again. That song is stuck in my head today and that is fine.
Today Rocky Mt ATV emailed me wanting my Michelin Tire Reword center password so they could submit my claim or said I must submit the rebate claim on my own. I am not giving out the password so they send me the form - and I spent 5 minutes submitting the claim.
I sure like the Dunlop RS4s so far. I am not going to measure tire wear - ride more stress less. These tires are easy to drop in, hold the line and go were you point them. The only short coming is the grey matter surrounded by the helmet. And when I learned that I became a better rider!!

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
After a month or so of straight rain every day, including some severe storms, I noticed that today's forecast had a 0% chance of rain. I considered playing a sick day card, but as a contractor that means I don't get paid, can't do that at the moment. I did however need to get the FJR in for it's last and final inspection in Texas, thanks to inspections going away next year. I checked and it was 70F without a cloud in the sky, so I took it for a rip into town to get the inspection done. The lady got me in and out and I headed home to get onto a meeting for work. Not much, but definitely refreshing to get out for even a little bit.
