Aussie's in Ca need technical guidence with fuel injectors
I'm posting this in both sandboxes. If you have any ideas please call Kevin.
Kevin and Marie (a good mate of Festar) are back in the US traveling on their 03 FJR. Long story short is the the bike sat 4 years in Texas and all went well when he fired it up(parked with a full tank of petro) but after riding to Ca it would not run right. He pulled the fuel pump and discovered rust - big time. Drained the tank and cleaned fuel pump and tank. All back together, fuel pump seems to be working and fuel in the rail but the bike barely runs briefly.
Kevin seems quite mechanical and he thinks it's plugged injectors or or perhaps they need to be replaced.
He's looking for assistance on injector operation/ part numbers if they need to be replaced?
He's trying to get back on here but in the mean time if you can be of assistance with knowledge of the injectors please call him directly on his cell 415 272-0028
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

There is a screen in every injector, perhaps just needs to pull them and rinse out the screens. I'd try that first. Perhaps some crud from the tank is clogging them up.
Here is the kit for new screens, o-rings and grommets... for 115-150HP Yammy outboard motor.

Seeing as he will be under the tank. On Gen 1 there is a white main harness plug that lives up near front that has given weird running conditions when the contacts inside get corroded. Just take the harness plugs apart and look for dirty contacts. If dirty clean with WD40 then contact cleaner then di-electric grease. May not be issue but worth checking while in there.

Re: Aussie's in Ca need technical guidence with fuel injectors
I have a stack of used/good 06 injectors they can have IF 2006 and 2003 are compatible.
Part numbers differ slightly..
5FL-13761-00-00 - 2003
5JW-13761-10-00 - 2006
Can anyone confirm/deny compatibility?

Re: Aussie's in Ca need technical guidence with fuel injectors
Don, likely will work just fine, but take a look at them. Do the 2003's have 3 holes and the later ones 4 holes? I have heard the 4 hole are just an upgrade for better atomization..... or so I read on the neenernet.

Re: Aussie's in Ca need technical guidence with fuel injectors
Long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away I think I read somewhere on the inter-google that Ivan recommended replacing Gen 1 injectors with Gen 2 injectors when re-flashing a Gen 1 ECU.
I thought that was on Ivan's website, but I can't find that on his website today.
Maybe that was on some porn website and injector meant something else. No, no, I think I would remember that for sure.

Doesn't show on his website today that he offers a Gen 1 flash. I think that memory was from a forum discussion where someone else asked Ivan about a Gen 1 flash and that was his response.FJRoss wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2024 4:10 pmDon't think Ivan offered a GenI flash??? Re: Aussie's in Ca need technical guidence with fuel injectors
Talked to Kevin tonight, he can read our posts but is having trouble logging in.
Anyway he cleaned the injectors (some crud in the last one on the rail) but not bad. Bike does run but dies when twisting the throttle so he checked the fuel pressure and it was only 5 lbs ish instead of plus 40 psi. New fuel pump on order and should arrive Friday, we agreed that when idling it ran fine so (fingers crossed) that should get them on the road as they need to get back to Texas soon.
Thank you folks for the sound advise and calls made directly to Kevin.
This place is the best!!!

Re: Aussie's in Ca need technical guidence with fuel injectors
BigJohn put Kevin and I in touch.... sorry I could not be more helpful. Here's the deal. New pump in a bucket runs fine with power and ground wires attached. When running a simulated Yamaha wiring hookup, it has an additional "ground" wire..... pump will run for ~30 seconds and quit. No explanation..... I am not familiar with the Gen1 pump housing/extra ground wire..... if anyone has pictures or explanation, Kevin would be ever grateful. I know some have had Gen1 pump assemblies apart......
Meanwhile, plan is to eliminate (snip) that extra ground wire and see what happens...
For the record, he has the original housing only changed the pump (which you can get generically rather than the whole expensive Yamaha unit).
