Headlight issue. Need help please

Post by Cav47 »

I have been noticing that my right headlight on my FJR had been acting funny. (Coming on but not staying on). After investigating, I find that the end of the bulb is broken off. The previous owner installed a 1off Motorsport 35watt XLS KIT. I believe they are out of business and I need a right side light.

Is there parts still available or a direct replacement type?? Thanks

Do you have more info on the lights he installed? A quick google search didn't turn up anything useful.

Cav, you can use any H4 bulb. I'm assuming the Motorsport 35 watt light is a ballast driven HID. The ballast will be plugged into the 3-prong OEM headlight plug, just disconnect it, and plug that into the H4 bulb. If you want to replace the light with another HID light, you can buy any H4 automotive HID conversion kit.

Let me know if you'd rather use HID or conventional incandescent halogen, and I'll give you specific recommendations.

Throw out the suggestions anyway. I replaced mine with some H4 bulbs from O'Really's? and they are OK...kinda.

Definitely want to stay HID. After some research, it appears my bike has xenon lamps. The company I called was HIDSRUS. I sent him some pictures via email and that they have a plug and play replacement but it is $89 bucks. He is sopposed to email me some specs and such. Still waiting on that. What recommendations do u have??

Thank u.

I have HID on my Feejer. If your keeping the ballasts and just replacing the capsules, then you have 2 choices. The Mfgr and color temp.

My advice is to go Japanese vs. the cheaper Chinese made ones. eBay is flooded with the Chinese ones, so a google for 'Japanese made' may be in order if you want to go this way. The color choice is up to you, just remember one thing... the more higher you go up on the Kelvin scale, the dimmer the actual luminous will be. Plus all that color makes you look like a Kali rice burning fewl! ....5 to 6 K is optimal :)

I paid a lot for mine, but I went Osram/Philips combo (ballasts/capsule). Once you go HID, I can never see anybody going back to the crappy halogens... well maybe a blind guy would ;)

I used 4300K bulbs and got a nice white light and good shielding. $89 is pretty inexpensive, but will get you basic AC ballasts and decent bulbs. They won't be Canbus and could have more RFI than more expensive sets. The nice thing is you can carry a spare H4 bulb under the seat in case anything fails. This kit on Amazon for $69 is of equal or better quality than the one you're looking at http://www.amazon.com/Headlight-Convers ... enon+4300k

Something with an ASIC chip would be an upgrade with a better ballast. http://www.xenonpro.com/h4/h4-bi-xenon- ... OgodrSAAKw

Something by Philips (or a close copy with KET connectors), is a good bit more expensive. http://www.skeenway.com/hid-conversion- ... n-kit.html
