Ran some errands on the FJR today. Took a couple of longway round return routes. Great weather. Got home and the piranha tooth bar for the Kubota arrived along with a Metzeler Tourance rear tire for my friends 2023 GSA Rallye. Got the tooth bar installed about the time Clint pulled in on the GSA. Got his tire swapped out. 25 grams and the Marc Parnes says it's dead nuts. With all the work done we turned to playing with pistols. He showed me three new (used) pieces he picked up recently over a couple of cold ones. Pretty awesome day all in all. Clint's got a new rear skin, and I'm gonna tear shit up with the Piranha bar!

I suspect that's a gsxS1000gt

Nice bike, I've yet to ride the GT version, but my old naked version was a hoot. I loved it for quite a while, but I'm loving it's replacement too.

Applied the Jim-and-Iris-tested techspec bag guards, and real-time industries reflectives, to the recently sourced bags.

That leaves for tomorrow a wash, swapping on the hydration system, and swapping on the Laam seat, the better to be comfortable and (hopefully) victorious Monday.

I rode my FJR to the BMW dealer where I test rode this 2024 BMW 1300 GS.

Image

My test ride was about 8 miles. A bit of freeway and a the rest a 35 mph city road.

Impression. They want me to spend 25k plus on a bike where I get an 8 mile ride. Nuts.

In the parking lot before the ride the salesperson fired it and blue smoke came from the exhaust for a moment. He said that goes away in 300 miles. Put it in writing please. :D

On the freeway I was surprised the wind protection was excellent. The engine is very smooth. The dynamic suspension absorb bumps better than the FJR. Man a I need to ride this more than 8 miles to see how it works on some poor pavement.

The engine is very responsive to the throttle to the point of being snatchy. No surging just quick to accelerate with little throttle to the point of annoying.

The handlebars are too high for me. My forearms were level, whereas on my DR650 and FJR, my elbows are 2 to 3 inches higher than my hands. I found the handlebar position annoying and not fixable, except if I find some different bars.

1st ride of the year for me on Friday afternoon. Running to the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron allows a little bit of slab and some 2 lane to ensure all systems are green. After driving #sparklefarts all winter, the FJR felt like a rocket. It's good to be back on 2 wheels!!

Here's to another great year of 2 wheel adventures!

Road it down to Lumberg's to pick up the Yamaha comfort seat. It has less upward slope than the Sargen seat. Will have to see how it feels on a longer ride.

It will handle rough pavement very well. In Dynamic mode the throttle is pretty aggressive. Surprised they gave you such a short test ride. Maybe they are limiting because it is a new model. They're usually good about letting you take a good test ride. I know of no other brand that allows test rides, period. Road mode decreases the throttle progressivity and is good for general riding. If they are parked on the side stand for a while, oil runs toward the left cylinder and a little smoke is normal. I have not ridden one, since I already have a 14 and a 21 GS Rallye, there is no point. My fleet overfloweth at this point. I like the high bar riding position, but, I have Rox risers that bring the bars up and back. I also roll the bars more upright. Where I sit on the FJR, I sit in the GS. Wind protection is amazing for such a small screen. I put a GSA screen on my 21, and I have a Puig touring screen on my 14. Yes, new ones are spensive. Both mine I bought used.

Rode the FJR across the neighborhood from the old garage to the new garage. Will be happy when we are done unpacking and all our stuff is out of storage, but the bikes are here, so there's that.

This year I have rode over 1100 miles so today I washed the bike and checked the air filter. It is dirty so I ordered a new air filters, two oil filters and a set of spark plugs, along with two sprockets for my DR650. Looks like I won't be getting a BMW motorcycle after all. The FJR does a lot of thing right and it is running fine.

Rode it a little over 1,000 miles. I need to buy some oil. Probably time for an oil change.

Had good moral support from extrememarine and wheaton. Unlike the unrideable cold, wet, and frozen precip up north, I was lucky enough to have dry conditions and moderate temps. Even a Harley rider could have gone for a 1K today in my area.

Bled all brake lines on my 2013. I wonder if the previous owner ever bled them? I never saw such dark fluid in the Mighty Vac collection canister. The fluid wasn't anywhere near that dark in the reservoirs. Anyway, the brake lever and pedal are much firmer now.

I then took the FJR out for a test ride after getting fuel in the CRF250L. The FJR seemed so heavy and huge after riding the CRF the last couple of days.

If the brake fluid was dark, best flush and bleed the clutch, it will even be darker......

Wayne bled the clutch fluid for me at Wheaton's last year. I don't remember it being unusually dark, but the bike wasn't shifting correctly. Thanks for the heads up though!
