What did you do to your FJR today?

All loaded up. The weather is niice. Gonna take a couple days and just ride.

Which means a Pants trip report soon.

Luckily we have a few good days here and there so I get to do day rides. Weather still a bit iffy for multi day trips. At least to the places I want to go.

Yesterday I took mine in to get inspected. Not too painful. I went to the closest MC dealer that does it. Strangely it is a Harley/Honda place. They will not touch Yamahas except for the state inspection. They had an older gentleman there that did all the inspections. I was in and out in about 20 minutes. About $15.

The guy doing the inspection really loved the FJR. We talked bikes for a bit. He could not find the odometer reading and apologized for asking. I laughed and told him don't feel bad I had to show the Yamaha dealer that soid it to me how to find it.

Went out for a 50 mile ride in 42 degree dry weather. I decided to wear 4 layers under my jacket instead of using the heated jacket liner and heated gloves. After about 30 miles, it occurred to me that the heated jacket liner and heated gloves would've been the better choice. Regardless, still a great ride.

On your last run you came within a block of my house. I was about one day post umbilical hernia surgery. I couldn't even walk out to the road and wave.

My house was two hours from the upper Keys. Great turnaround place.

No longer have that house.

Nate did take me up on the offer to stay on his trip down.

I took the front brake calipers off of my 2013. Removed the pads and cleaned everything up in there with some brake cleaner. The pads on the inside were more worn than the pads on the outside so I swapped them. Lubed up the pad pins with some silicone grease when reassembling. I was going to bleed the brake lines next. The bike is dirty. I have to wash it to find the bleed nipples.

Also it was a cold 40 degrees with the garage door open. I took the bike for a quick ride to test the brakes. I was able to stop. I guess I didn't hurt anything. After bleeding the brake lines, I'll be ready to go for the 2024 travels.

65 degrees in N. GA to day. Took the FJR out for about 150 mile ride. Told the Garmin XT to take twisty roads. Was having fun hitting a lot of roads I've never been on until it wanted me to turn on a dirt road. Yeah, not on the FJR. On the GS, it would have been fun. I guess the twisty slider overrides the avoidances set in the Nav. Anyway, great ride. Stopped in TWO, lots of bikes out. Two electric Zero's pulled in. Talked to them for a while, and they said range is 100 miles if just cruising. Hitting it in the twisties, takes it down quicker. For me, it's a 67 mile ride through nice twisties to get to TWO. I think I'll keep the FJR. Got home and decided to take the DRZ (Bush Piglet) out for a spin. Lot's of back roads around the house and a few dirt excursions. Fun day, was good to get out.

72° and sunny, so Marie and I went for a short 80 mile ride. So nice riding in cooler weather.

Stared at it, and started to think about routes to Orlando, FL for a possible work conference in April. Not sure yet but discussing next week. If i burn through to much rubber before my trip out west, then I'll need another set of RSIII. Crap.

No 17" front is available. There is a 170/60-17 rear. (At least from what I see on the Dunlop website.)
I guess you might try a 120/90-17 or 130/80-17 rear tire in the front...

I have the Missions on my F700GS and while not especially sticky in the wet, I haven't had any issues. I am loving the lifetime and decent dirt road traction.

I got 4,800 mi. on mine and it was at the wear bars. Front had tread, but was lumpy and felt horrible. You can't ride an FJR without enjoying powering out of corners, or riding a little aggressively. I know I can't. I know they don't make Trailmax's to fit the FJR, but, it would be
Interesting if they made a high mileage tire for it that handled. They sure wear like iron on my GS, and handle pretty darn good as well. But that's 100 lbs. lighter bike.

Sure you can, I do it all the time. It's actually pretty easy to not power out of corners when you don't have any corners.

I've gotten way more miles out of my FJR's ST tires than I have out of the missions on my KTM. Course, the KTM does have a bit more oomph than the FJR and the V-Twin delivers it in a much more aggressive manner.

Come to the southren Appalachians my friend. There are plenty of twisty roads and sweepers that will challenge you with the appropriate high rev and high torque situations on your FJR that will define aggressive.

The way the FJR eats tires, rare is the case when I don't have a new set and a set of take-offs at the ready.
