I started making my maintenance checklist and shopping list. The bike will go on the lift at Christmas and get stripped down for it's annual TLC.

Got all the stuff to do a valve check , plugs, coolant, throttle body sync, and fluid changes. Also have a Zumo XT power cable to wire in, and a set of Darla's to mount and wire in. Good winter projects.

Was warm enough after work yesterday to get the new to me 2013 washed.

You can really see the paint damage on the bottom of the left side cover. Driver's footpeg rubber is worn badly and it appears PO must have ridden a lot with his left foot constantly in a shifting position as the shifter rubber is paper thin as well. Thinking this may be the reason for the paint damage. Replacement left side cover from eBay should arrive today.

Image

Already swapped out the stock windscreen for a Cee Bailey I'd had on the 2014.
Image

Saddlebag decals are on my shopping list.

Image

Sargent seat that was on the bike when I rode it home. Better than stock seat anyway.

Image

Saddleman seat that was included. I Like the look of it but haven't ridden with it yet.

Bike was actually really filthy and still needs some detailing but will have to wait for warmer weather. It looks far better now than when I picked it up. Parts should be trickling in soon including a set of Clearwater Darla's for the front fender, Techmount stem mount for my Garmin, heated gear power cord, and a RAM ball mount for on the clutch perch just to get me started.

Ahem. Those Saddleman seats look a little strange; like they were made for old guys with swollen prostates.

Given our basic demographics, Here is the extensive list of FJR riders that don’t need one of those.

Julie and Lisa.

Pretty much the rest of them should be considering said seat. Lol

Nice warm morning in the mid 50's. Taking the FJR, Tracer and FZ-07 out for a ride, fill the tanks with gas and added fuel system cleaner. I like to keep the fuel tanks full through the winter to prevent rust from forming in the tanks. I'm a little surprised as I wasn't even cold riding the FZ-07. Beautiful day.

Took the F700GS out for a ride yesterday in tolerably warm (but salty) conditions. (10°C, 50°F)
Colder weather for the foreseeable future and 10-20+ cm of wet snow forecast for Sunday into Monday. Long range weather forecast doesn't inspire hope for a late season warm(er) spell.

Washed the salt off the BMW, added fuel stabilizer, topped off the tank and ran the engine until the fan came on to evaporate the wash water from radiator, engine and exhaust. (Also gets the oil up to full temperature).

Added stabilizer to the FJR tank (was already washed and tank topped off last week). Also ran it for 15 minutes to get the stabilizer through the system and drive off any moisture condensation in the oil or exhaust.

Both bikes are likely in hibernation until late March!

Any auto supply place, Amazon, hardware store, Wal-Mart etc.. I use a store brand but essentially the same as "Sta-bil".
Even in non-winter places, it gets used for marine applications, small engines or any time when you don't expect to use your gas in reasonably short order.

Sorry, it's the season where those of us who live in boring riding places but can ride year round get to rib those folks who live in amazing riding places but can't ride year round. It's our season, leave us alone and let us have our tiny bit of glory.
