RIP Ionbeam - 10/7/23

Post by FJRoss »

Fred W just posted this in the other sandbox.
No details, but Alan lost his battle with cancer this week. He will be missed by all of us for his technical expertise and great sense of humor.
One of the most interesting individuals I have met.
RIP Alan!

Ross,
Thank you for confirming what I feared. One of the most mechanically helpful members of the board as well as simultaneously being one of the wickedly funniest members as well. He was an original. I have sincerely missed him for awhile and already feared the worst.

If there’s anyway to let Helen know, please send our condolences!

Alan/ionbeam was one of the best!

Do yourself a favor if you didn’t know him and start reading through his posts. Eventually his humor and and smarts will make you laugh.

f@$k. What a gut punch.

He was a wonderful guy. I will miss him dearly. I'm just thankful for the time he was with us sharing his technical expertise and humor. And also for the times I was able to ride with him here in Arizona, and New England.

Oh crap. This cancer shit really sucks. Alan was a great guy. Very smart and very nice, and always happy to help anyone. I rode with him and Helen in VT, NH, MA, and they did my Cats & Dacks ride also. I haven't been in the other sandbox for a while, and I had no idea. I feel bad. We have lost a great man.

Dammit! Met him at the first EOM I attended in Lewisburg 2015. Nice guy and like everyone else has said, extremely knowledgable.

My condolences to the family. He will be missed by all.

So sad to hear the news of Alan's passing. He was always so kind and informative. I enjoyed the conversations I had with him at a couple of NERDS events in Stowe, VT. He was so knowledgeable about multiple subjects. He was always a great resource regarding FJR maintenance issues. Rest in peace Alan. As many have already stated, we've lost a great man. My heart goes out to Helen and Alan's extended family.

So very sad. My condolences to the family. I had some communication with him awhile back but when I hadn't heard from him for so long I feared the worst. A truly kind hearted person so rare in this day and age. He is sorely missed. :|

Sad news indeed - he was a kind and giving soul. His passion and wealth of knowledge here were second only to his willingness to share and to be helpful.

I was fortunate to meet him at EOM. Tyler and I had been trying to get in touch over the past year. I left a couple voicemails letting him know we were all thinking of him and Helen.

Alan was a good friend to me, we talked many times. Great man, I would seek Helen and him out at any gathering we attended. I knew he was going through this difficult battle the last couple of years and actually I can feel a little relief it is over. It's always sad to lose a good friend like Alan but I will always remember him and how better off I am for knowing him. May he rest in peace. I hope Helen is doing OK.

I posted this over in the other forum, but I can help repeating it here.
Another FJR riding friend gone. So sad to hear this. I have not been paying attention and did not know that he was sick. The older I get the more friends I lose, and each time I hear about one I feel the loss. I don't know who I am going to ask next time I have a difficult technical question. RIP Mr. Beam.

Such sad news. I never met him but had some private messages with him over the years and always appreciated his willingness to help, and help in such great detail. He was a brilliant man, without question.

His family and friends will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Sad news indeed. We could always count on Alan for solid advise on all things FJR. He and Helen were out west some years back on a rented k16 and I had the pleasure of showing them some of our high country on a day ride. I fondly remember that day and the pleasant conversation we had over lunch. Godspeed Alan.
