Danh600 stopped by on Monday and we had a couple of nice day rides in the area:

On day 1, we stopped at the top of the Chattsworth lookout:

Image

It was a bit warm, but we made due.

Image

Picnic lunch on Lake Carter.

Image

No Ice Cream at Turner's Corner (WTF, over?), so I went with plan B.

Image

On day 2, it was raining in the morning, so we sat around drinking coffee and telling lies.

Image

Late morning, we left with wet roads, but as we moved north, conditions improved. Stopped in Tellico Plains for lunch

When Mama says you can only have 1 cookie, this is the one you want:

Image

After lunch, we learned that the Cherahola Skyway was closed due to a wash out in heavy rains the night before. No worries - I'll just wing it.

I like this picture very much.

Image

At the end of the day, I was taking it very easy on my front tire, with good reason!

Image

That will get taken care of tomorrow.

It was a great visit - always nice to see M/C buddies!

Stay thirsty, my friends.....

gixxerjasen wrote: Wed Aug 16, 2023 10:45 am Rode it to work. Yep, I work from home but I still rode it to work.

Cold front moved through and it was mid sixties this morning so I had to get out. A local couple recently opened a coffee shop in town and they are smarter than the previous folks that had a coffee shop near there and are open early. Figured I'd go check it out, support a small local business, and get me some coffee and a ride in. Just what I needed.

Going to be a glorious 95F this afternoon, might try to squeeze in an evening ride too. Going to be back to 108F this weekend.

Yup, can be very nice. I learned to ride in Florida, and remembered the first time I discovered evaporative cooling on a motorcycle. At the time, living in an apartment had it's benefits. I'd swing by the pool on my way out and use the outdoor shower to soak myself and my gear, then go ride.

New RS3s on the FJR today. Thanks to Lumberg for the mechanic recommendation - dude was excellent and quick. I rode in, and one hour later, rode out.

Of course, it’s like a new bike now (well - it practically IS a new bike), so I took the long way home - about 125 miles worth.

I parked it outside the garage in the rain so we could sort out all the tack and saddles to repack them for this weekend's 2 shows.

Tack sorted and FJR bath - 2 birds, one shot... sorta.

D-Eagle would be proud...

Had no obligations (made sure) on my day off so i could have some fun time. Road to shop and filled the left case with oil and filter, then off to Hazard's Distillery. Loaded the right case with 3 bottles of 4yr old Bourbon and a bottle of Salted Caramel. Rode the long way home.

Changed oil and filter, final drive, and gave it a bath. Wax tomorrow and ready for a visit to tech day.

Maintenance day, New tires, new front brake pads, lubed driveshaft splines, and flushed brake fluids.

61k on the front pads, got my money's worth. PR4GTs I took off had 12,448 miles on them and were just at the wear bars. Probably another 500-1000 in them?

I rode it 200 miles throughout the north Georgia twisties. I'm now finding a few secondary roads that I can use to "connect the dots" from "here to there" that are very good roads to ride. Today, I wandered up to Suches (TWO), and checked out the bike porn. Today was a "swap meet" - if I needed any riding gear, there were some good buys to be made. Rode with some "new to me" friends down to Dahloniga for lunch. More twisties after lunch.

Having a good time.

Wow, you bolted the No-Mar to the middle of the garage floor!

Years ago I left a metal gas can on a bare concrete floor only to find it's bottom rusted out shortly thereafter. Have heard superstitions about leaving car batteries sitting on bare concrete then the case busting. Ever since I have been careful to put a board under gas cans and batteries. Of course, "No problems! That proves the superstition!"

Anyway, there is some science to the superstition. The concrete floor is usually cold and could encourage condensation in the gas can. "Mechanics" have claimed the concrete floor can discharge a battery... maybe there is something to static electricity or something. I'll continue to thermally insulate from the floor.

I put inserts in the floor and the Nomar is only there when in use. I stick foam earplugs in the holes and her car gets parked over that area when not in use,

Had a nice ride, but had to get tires. It was nice and cool going. Waited a long time for the tires to be put on. Ride home was hot, but no matter. I took the scenic route.

Batteries on a concrete floor is a holdover from when they were made of wood.

Well, I did have one leak in my garage in direct contact with the floor. Have a nice etched footprint.

I worked for a battery distributor back in the day. We never put batteries on the bare concrete floor.

It was to protect the floor. This was before sealed units.

I put another set of Roadsmart IV's on the bike this morning. This is my second set of these after 2 sets of Road 6's. I really like these tires as they wore uniformly until the end and handling was great. I replaced them at about 6500 miles which was earlier than I could have. They still had some life left on them especially the front. I probably could have gotten another 750 to 1000 miles out of them but with fall fast approaching, a trip to EOM, and other spots coming up I wanted new rubber. I had a not too pleasant experience away from home on a long trip not long ago where I thought the tires would hold up only to find wear bars with too many miles left to go  Messes up plans quickly and told myself never again, if in doubt they get changed. I am looking forward to all the great times ahead putting some miles on them.

License plate sticker came in the mail today so I cleaned up the plate and put that on. She's good for another yea...nope, I was late, good for another six months.

Also, the walk to the mailbox to get the sticker confirmed that it's still not riding season yet, but the weatherman says it's coming soon.
