Wow. How time flies...... It was 13 years ago today that I posted this ride report in one of the other sandboxes. I still remember that day riding around the Arizona high country very well. Ah, the memories.......

This keeps me thinking and sort of confirms my thoughts about about lane position on on left hand turns. When I'm hustling through turns I like to keep my bikes tires in one of the two automotive tire paths since I feel they have the cleanest riding surfaces through a corner. On left hand turns like this one, I always ride with my MC tires in the left hand automotive tire path at the apex giving me the most time and space for evasive maneuvers and a clean travel path on the road. The dilemma is that while riding left turns in the left tire path, many times your head,torso and part of the bike is across the center line of the road. This makes a mid corner lane position changes necessary on blind corners when meeting a car from the other direction. I'm confident in my ability for mid turn lane position adjustments so that usually don't bother me as I'm always prepared for it when a car drifts across the center line.

Just some rambling thoughts since I've luckily never experienced a low side from debris on the road. My only low side was on BigJohnSD's last Spearfish FJR gathering. I was feeling my oats on the loaded up Beta 500 returning to Spearfish from a 800 mile dual sport ride on Iron Mountain road. I was riding down hill on one of the three pig tails leaning over very hard when I ran out of tread on the dual sport tire and lost the rear end. Just like you said, one moment I'm carving a corner like Rossie, (in my head) the next moment I'm sliding down the asphalt.

I prefer to take my Falls at low speed/stopped in front of others. Much more damage to the ego, less to the bike.

As to position in the lane, I am a firm advocate of always taking a late Apex when riding on the street increased sight line, ability to see crap on the road, just my opinion.

I remember this, like others I like the outside of a corner as I can see farther around the corner always leaving enough margin to move inside.
It was at a forum high of smart ass remarks from a good peanut gallery!
Since this has happened I have rode 89 a few times as we were in the M/H by Cottonwood. There is a bunch of good riding between Phoenix and Flagstaff. Not sure I'll ever get back as the Mrs. health may not allow.
