Europe 2023
It's that time of year again. It's time to go visit my 2009 FJR that I have stored in Germany. This year it will be just over a month and I will be joined by my SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) girlfriend Susan. Thanks to Susan there will be much more time off the bike exploring and hiking. Most of our time will be spent in the Swiss and Italian Alps. At least that is the plan. And plans are always subject to change! I'll be travelling to many places I have been before - but that's ok as I could do the Swiss Alps over, and over again every year. This year however, I am looking forward to seeing some cool places off the bike that I have ridden past on past trips.
As many of you know I am extremely lame when it comes to my Europe trip ride reports. I wish that wasn't the case but do you have any idea how hard it is to do a ride report for a month long or more trip? Thousands of photos! So much having been done! It's my white whale! So this year I am going to try something different. I am going to try to do a running commentary while Susan and I galivant across the Alps. This ride report/commentary will most likely be heavy on photos, and light on commentary. I do want to actually enjoy my trip and be in the moment. There is a good chance this ride report will fail spectacularly when I run out of energy after several days on the road. But we shall see......
If there is one thing I could wish for everyone that rides a moto is that they get the chance to ride the Swiss Alps. To me, there is nothing else like it. So get off your a** and make it happen before it is too late.....
Without further adieu........
Susan and I arrived in Heidelberg, Germany yesterday where my 2009 FJR1300 has been stored since 2019 at Knopf Tours. A bunch of maintenance was performed on my trusty FJR while we recovered from jet lag. We had some great BBQ ribs for lunch. Great BBQ in Heidelberg, Germany? Go figure.
As always, Stefan and Chris Knopf were wonderful and had my FJR waiting outside our room - the 'BMW Room'. Sacrilege!
Yummy BBQ ribs and German beer. An excellent start to the trip.
I am not sure what Susan is so excited about. Excellent ribs? Euro adventure? German beer? Getting to spend 33 days non-stop with no breaks with yours truly? Nah, probably just the effects of jet lag.
Today we chill, take care of administrative tasks and take on the challenge of packing the bike for a month long trip two-up. Tomorrow, we begin our adventure in earnest and head to wonderful Switzerland!

Unfortunately, I am afraid that is going to be all too close to the truth. She also has something planned that if it does not kill me, I'm afraid will have me frozen in fear. But I'll save that surprise for later. Assuming I actually put my Big Boy pants on and do it.wheatonFJR wrote: ↑Fri Jun 30, 2023 8:33 am Please have SWMBO take a video of you wheezin up the hiking trail in the mountains...you know, so we know if we wanna do that stuff.

Re: Europe 2023
My past 3 trips. I always winged it. Obtaining accommodations between one hour and maybe one day ahead of time with a rare exception. This year, it is different. Europe is very busy. This year prices are up and accommodations are filling at popular locations. So about 2 weeks before we left we planned and booked out the first 8 nights of our trip.
