Yep, that's not fake news. I think Cav47 and Viper Dad had them go bad. If I recall correctly, it screws up the camera. It won't let the camera focus correctly.

Re: Iphone Holder (to use while riding)
Used this mount and a 10x1.25 (RAM-B-349U) ball mount for years on the fjr. Paired with an xGrip. Never had my S9+ phone fly off. Thinking about a quad lock with vibration dampner next. What i heard the most about phone damage was the camera mechanism to reduce shake is destroyed by the relatively high amplitude (compaired to the mechanism) extended vibration of the bike

Re: Iphone Holder (to use while riding)
That is correct. On a Spring Break trip a few years ago, my camera was acting goofy. It turned out as the problem you described. There was not that much out on the internet yet about the vibration damage, but now we know. Part of the problem for me was I was using the camera like a GoPro as it was mounted behind the screen facing forward. It pretty much did my camera in. Many pictures were ruined on that trip.

This is as the last good picture my phone took. That 15 is my bike before it was bought from John. I was still on the 04. After we ripped some curves in Southern Missouri, it started taking pictures poorly.
Focus was off. They were flying by though.

At Joeys.
So many awesome pics were ruined. This one of Pops is all blurred.
This one the subject just ruined it. Can’t blame the camera for this much ugly.

Re: Iphone Holder (to use while riding)
I killed an iPhone with my FJR a few years back, the vibration destroyed the camera. Took it to the Apple Store, feigned ignorance, and they gave me a free refurbished phone (yes, I'm morally unstable when it comes to $1,200 phones). Riding with Festus this past weekend, I yet again experienced the useless search feature on my Garmin zūmo® 396 LMT-S:
Me: "Search for Tazewell, Virginia. It's a decent sized town about 20 miles away."
Garmin: "No results for Tazewell, Virginia. Here is Tazewell, Oregon; it is 2,752 miles away. Also, here is Tazewell, Slovakia; unable to route. Also, there is a curve ahead."
Me: Turns off Garmin.
Festus and I do a lot of weekend rides and more than once I've said, "Verizon has good coverage out here, I wish I could run Google Maps without breaking my iPhone camera." Worse, I still have the RAM ball installed on my left bar so it is insulting to see it sitting there empty. I think it's time to bring the iPhone back into the equation, maybe a Quad Lock is my answer.

Re: Iphone Holder (to use while riding)
Did you pronounce Tazewell correctly for the internet search lady/fake phone personality on your phone? Locals pronounce it with a short a, as if there is no E in the word. LOL.Viper_Dad wrote: ↑Fri Oct 28, 2022 10:29 am I killed an iPhone with my FJR a few years back, the vibration destroyed the camera. Re: Iphone Holder (to use while riding)
All phones with mechanical focus are susceptible. A buzzkill fixed the problem. I killed a phone camera , got it fixed at Apple, then installed a buzzkill. A whole lot of miles. No more phone camera issues.

Re: Iphone Holder (to use while riding)
Thank you all for all of your suggestions (and part numbers)!
I didn't want to use the Quad Case because I didn't want to use a different phone case. But I also don't want to lose my expensive phone, or ruin it with vibration for that matter. Yesterday I received an email that Quad Lock is running their black friday sale, and everything is 30% off. Put the order in this morning.

Re: Iphone Holder (to use while riding)
I had the Ram x-grip but never used the rubber corner gripper because it was a pain to use. Sure enough I hit a pot hole one day and lost an Android. The next one I got was the Ram Sure Grip and I really love this one. The phone slips in and out easily and quickly, and when it's in there it's positively not going anywhere. Like mentioned already, a 10mm ram ball mount post can easily mount near the clutch lever.

Picked up the Quad Lock with damper attachment. (Replacing x-grip) Using the ball mount i have installed at the left "mirror" mount. So far i like it. Nothing wrong with x-grip (posted earlier in this thread about it) thought i would try it.

Re: Iphone Holder (to use while riding)
I have avoided mounting my phone on the bike because I have heard about vibration damaging the camera. Now there is proof of it.
Can't see the phone in the sun light anyway and a gloved finger is useless. My Garmin 590 is not easy to see in the sun at all time but for navigation it is easy to use than the phone.
I have an Ram X mount for sale. If anybody wants it PM me.

Re: Iphone Holder (to use while riding)
On our trip to Texas in April, my iPhone 13 Pro camera started acting wonky, like it was really wavey in live view. The dreaded camera killer.
So I ended up putting it in my tankbag, though it was a massive PIA not having it to use while riding. About 4 days later, it was normal again, and hasn’t acted up since. Not taking a chance, I’ve since ordered the Quad Lock system…wireless charging mount, anti-vibration mount, and waterproof charging cable.
Installed yesterday. Waiting on MagSafe case to arrive, then see if that works to solve the issue.

I have the Quad-Lock on the Tenere with the anti-vibration mount it worked great even off-road and EVEN when Doug cut me off and forced me into the sand where the S10 decided to take a nap. (It was all Doug's Fault, really).LKLD wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 2:35 pm On our trip to Texas in April, my iPhone 13 Pro camera started acting wonky, like it was really wavey in live view. In all seriousness the Quad-Lock system has been Marty proof, so far.
