Re: 2022 FJR
Just for reference, I'm about 6' and the Yamaha Touring will make the wind go over my helmet, so in your case, I'd say that's a little taller than you are looking for.

Re: 2022 FJR
The windscreen debate is very specific to each rider. It's not only your overall height, waist length, etc. I think your helmet, handlebar position, handlebar height and set back, etc. - it's everything. And then it's comfort - I'm willing to give up a little wind protection on the interstate and during higher speeds with cross winds, etc in return for having some breeze during our hot summers and more specifically, the breeze I get is not dirty air.
Experimenting with it can be very expensive and frustrating. That's why I was so adament about keeping the Cee Bailey - when you find one you like, you stick with it.

Re: 2022 FJR
That is one of the things that ultimately led me away from the FJR. I tried 4 or 5 windshields and could not get a dead zone or clean air to flow over my helmet. I test rode the BMW RT and fell in love with the "cone of silence" that it provided.Hppants wrote: ↑Sat May 20, 2023 11:09 am The windscreen debate is very specific to each rider. We have a friend that fought that same battle/hassle for years and now is wonderfully happy on a Versys.blind squirrel wrote: ↑Sat May 20, 2023 2:25 pmThat is one of the things that ultimately led me away from the FJR. I often have found myself when I was not looking, nor did that discovery take place where I thought it would!

Re: 2022 FJR
Ray is correct, I shimmed the #9 Bolts 3/8 inch out to put the windscreen more vertical, it worked for me.

I’ve tried everything. Nothing got me the cone of silence that the BMW RT had. But I’m happy with the compromises I’ve found.

Re: 2022 FJR
The cone of silence to me always meant not enough cool air getting to my helmet.

Re: 2022 FJR
I would think shimming the #9 bolts would make the top of the windscreen lean more toward the rider. That would lower the height of the windshield and put it in a more horizonal position wouldn't it? What am I missing here? Are you shimming just the bottom 2 bolts or all 4. If all four, how does that change the angle of the screen?

Re: 2022 FJR
Note the #9's are a top pair and a bottom pair.... shimming the top ones will make the windshield tilt "forward" and a tad taller. Shimming the bottom ones tilts it back/tad shorter but allows more airflow under it. Shimming all four will raise it off the body, also allows a little more airflow under. Air rushing up the back side can reduce buffetting.
My buddy who now owns my '14, had to shim the whole thing up 1/2" to clear the Gen3 dash shelf.... mid-size V-stream and he loves it now that we shimmed it..... all you can do is experiment with whatever windshield you have.

Re: 2022 FJR
As usual, Ray is absolutely correct.
Having spent 10 years installing windshields for Memphis Shades at Daytona and Sturgis I have just a bit of experience and knowledge. What I've learned from this is that no one solution works for everyone. Every Windscreen/Windsccreen height/Ass/Seat Height/Helmet/Body Trunk is different. Experimentation is the key to ultimate satisfaction. A key indicator of success is to ride at 60 mph, hold one of your hands just above your head, if your hand is in smooth air you have a good solution, if your hand is in turbulent air keep searching. In my experience, shimming the FJR windscreen more vertical raises the smooth airflow stream over the riders head. Shimming the bottom out lowers the smooth airflow stream. Shimminh the airstream up may make it better for the rider but introduce more buffeting for a Pillion -YMMV - see above.

Re: 2022 FJR
I'm 5'11" or so and get the same noise as Dan with the oem touring. Maybe not as bad. I was thinking one of the additional small adjustable screens that can be bolted to the installed screen but really dont like the look. I may need to ponder that shimming option...
