2022 FJR

Post by danh600 »

I loved my 2013, but truth be known Yamaha got me with the improvement and the Blue color.

So I traded the 2013 on a 2022.

I always said I would have a blue FJR and the last model ever made. Since they made one in 2023 I guess I might not need that one to happen. The 2022 might last me.

Right when I got it home. Notice the lack of side bags. I got lucky and got them a few months later.
Image

Rode it with my old smuggler till I got bags. Then sold the smuggler.
Image

Got a nice deal on a used RDL. It looks brand new. If I would have bought new I doubt I would have spent the extra money on the matching rear seat. No one is going to ride on it anyway. Glad I got the set of front and back. They look really good on the bike.
Image
Image

Kept my rack off the back on the 2013. Simple rack that works for me. I don't like top boxes so I just rok strap down kayak dry bags.
Image

Purchased and installed some tech-spec tank pads.
Image

I sill have a Garaud water bracket. Think I am going to clean it up and paint it black before I install it.

Also, have some Real Time Industries reflective stickers for the bags. I just need to install them. I think those are a must.

More to come.

As the budget allows I want to get a windshield. No idea what to get. I just ran stock on my 2013.
Looking for something smoke tinted and just raises the wind direction a couple of inches.

Also want to put some kind of protective guards on the bike.

Dang, wish I would have seen that smuggler for sale painted for the '13.

Your bike is beautiful, that blue is so gorgeous.

That Cobalt blue is a beautiful color. That's what made me make the deposit on the 06 in 05. Ah, remember when we used to have to pre-order them. Nice bike Dan! SEOR made me keep the 15. Renee is a happy camper. Me too!

One of the reasons I started this thread was advice. I guess first question is on the windshield. I kind of know what I want to do with the rest of the bike. No idea on windshields.

So I am 5'9" 32" inseam. The stock windshield lets the air hit too much of my helmet. No buffeting, just wind noise. I would like to get just a few more inches of clearance for the air.

I am looking for a tinted windshield that will do that. Don't ride two up, so I don't need a huge windshield. I don't want to have to look through the windshield.

What is everyone having good luck with?

Mine was pre-ordered, just not by me. I guess the original prospective buyer got tired of waiting. They refunded his money and put the bike on the floor.

I think for me that was lucky. I am pretty sure that is why I got my bags so quicks.

Not that many options for windshields for a Gen3. I can't recommend the Calsci, I'm not a fan. V-Stream medium has a light tint. There's a Yamaha Touring shield that most like better than the stock..... I agree the stock is just too small and was meant for showroom viewing more than practical....

Givi has as dark tinted base and looks great.
Flows more air than a Vstream medium. While still putting the majority of airflow at the top of my head (where the vents are in my helmet). It was my go-to windshield except for early spring and late fall.

That Givi looks a lot like the givi screen I had for my gen 1. I was good agains buffeting, but in the rain, the back pressure was difficult - I'd have rain splashing all over the place on my side of the screen.

I made it a point to tell the buyer of my '14 that I had to swap the Cee Bailey screens. There's not much out there.

If I had to take a shot in the dark, I'd probably go with the V-stream medium.

I have the Yamaha touring screen.

I am 5'11" with a 33" inseam and it works very well for me with the added touch of the FJR logo etched into the screen. It has my recommendation.

Jwilly, that gentle GIANT... rode a 13 back to me through a 1000 miles of rainstorms he rode in from western OK to upstate SC. On a stock seat.

Because he said he would.

Dan - 5'10 32" inseam, Laam seat on my 13.
I found what worked fir me was to shim the upper windshield mount screw 3/8" more vertical. You will need longer screws. The lower two screws remain the same. I'm not talking the plastic ws screws but the 5mm screws that hold the assembly to the carrier that raises and lowers the screen.

Interesting! Certainly a low cost solution.

Looks like #2 is the plastic ws bolt. #12 looks like the location you are talking about, but they are calling that a rivet?

The bolts John is referring to is item 9.... I recommend experimenting with the shimming...... if you shim the bottom two instead, more air will come under the windshield and reduce buffetting.... or shim all of them so the windshield sits off the body say 1/4" or more. Note, may need longer bolts wherever you put shims.

So just some quick research and following up leads it seems like I have these choices.

1. Shim the stock windshield. Certainly lower cost. Sounds interesting.
Stock ws is 18"x22"

2. V-stream comes in 3 sizes. I think the tall and sport are out. On paper the medium looks the best for me'
It's basically 20h x 21w.

3. Puig -This one looks really nice. It comes in a couple different tints. I think it would look great on the bike. However, I haven't heard any first hand knowledge on that one. I really like the smoked tint.
It's 22x25

4. Givi 22x21 Thinking that is the right size and several people endorse this one. Plus generally a little cheaper than other options.

5. Yamaha OEM tall 22x23 I have seen these and they do look nice. The FJR emblem is an added bonus.

6. Aeroflow tall 21x24 Much more expensive than the others.

Decisions............

Edit to say. I am not experiencing buffeting. I just need the air flow to go maybe 2" higher above my helmet. I am getting serious wind noise even with ear plugs. I don't even open that top helmet vent right now. It's just too loud with it open.
Also I hate looking through a motorcycle windshield. Tina's Valkyrie has a really tall WS and I hate it in the rain or buggy conditions. I guess if I get a windshield a little too tall I can just adjust it down a bit.

Dan, I have a big V-Stream. Nice in the rain, and to smoke a cigar in traffic with a modular helmet.
