Wayne - thank you for posting this. Murphy's Law is alive and well.
1. Why would anybody these days drive anything resembling that rig without a backup camera? Boggling.
2. Reminds me of the old Mud Flap words: "If you can't see me in my mirrors, I can't see you."
3. In future similar situations, I'll give more room behind the truck. That space will also give me an out of things behind me get out of hand.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
Not on my FJR but on my MT09.
Out riding and decided to go by the local park in Crystal River. There is a good kayak launch there. I can haul my kayak down there in the truck and just do an out and back paddle. Don't need a shuttle or help like most paddles. So I swing into the park on the bike to check wind, water conditions and if parking is available. Thinking of kayaking after the bike ride since it was getting hot.
Pull into the park and it's basically a one way circle. There is a car in front of me stopped. There is county truck in front of her sitting in the middle of the road. He is not really doing anything. Just sitting in his truck and blocking traffic. The driver in front of me is getting impatient. Finally the county truck moves. The car in front and me start moving. She starts turning left into a parking place so I just stay in first and attempt to just cruise past. Didn't see a problem cause she was moving into the parking spot and leaving the road open for me.
Just as I get behind her and she is about half way in the parking spot. She is suddenly in reverse. I don't think she even came to a full stop. She was right on top of me. I didn't even have time to hardly react. Because of the angle it would have been hard to power forward and her miss me.
Luckily a guy in front of her saw what was happening. He was unloading his truck. He raised his arms and screamed at her. She hit the brakes. Her back bumper was touching my knee! He saved my bike from getting run over and possibly me.
I slammed the trunk of her car about three times because I was pissed. She jumped out of the car and started toward me. It didn't look like an apology was on her mind. I really didn't want to deal with it. So I just rode off.
I swear she had to go from drive to reverse with no brakes and no stop because of how fast she was on top of me. Not like this was happening at high speed. Positive she never looked back when she proceeded in reverse.
I never stop right behind someone. That is the crush zone. Mainly I do it to protect me from the vehicles behind me. When the vehicle in front of you becomes a danger it is always a surprise!!

I agree. I never stop directly behind any vehicle at an intersection. Lane filtering is legal here (when traffic is stopped) so drivers are not shocked if they see a bike near the lane stripes on the driver's side.
#1 may be a lot to ask, though. I just glad if any size of truck has taillights that work.
Backup alarms and rear clearance radar would be on my wish list, too, which is prolly why I'm not the king here.
Speaking of which, you can buy reasonable-in-volume backup alarms that plug into the backup light sockets on any vehicle, then you plug the backup light bulbs into them. Most auto parts stores have these alarms. They sound off anytime you shift into reverse, but they don't sound as loud as a backhoe would. All of my neighbors have kidlets, and I have those alarms on both my Camaro and Blazer. I tell all the kids, if you hear my beeps, RUN-FOR-IT!!

Yeah, I ride motorcycles. I know why dogs put their heads out of the car windows.
Yeah, I fly hang gliders (3000 hrs.+). I know why the birds sing.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
Not exactly ON my FJR, but sat down last night with my helmet, SENA, Garmin GPS, and phone, broke all connections and started from scratch with the manual. Got my phone connected as a phone and my GPS connected as a GPS again, finally.
I don't use the phone much while riding, but I do use Siri from time to time. Push one button, Siri comes on and it's all good. GPS is feeding into my helmet again. Lost some of that a while back and just hadn't taken the time to sort it all out.

I've had the truck roll back on me thing happen to me. I left lots of room but it got short in a hurry.
Leave way more room then what's prudent.

That will buff right out.
I often have found myself when I was not looking, nor did that discovery take place where I thought it would!

Yesterday was a slog-it-out slab day.

It's nice when you find it before you leave rather than out on the road. My thoughts, plug it and ride it to the chords.
