Software Update Planned - 3/19/23

There is a software update available for the forum software. I plan to run the update on Sunday morning sometime between 7am and noon. During that time, there is potential for the site to be unavailable - you will get the "site is unavailable" message.

If the update goes sideways, status will be posted on the FJRiders.com home page here.

A word of advice from a long time software developer.

I an sure this software goes into wide beta before general release. That being said, never ever rush out to install the latest greatest. This will eventually burn you badly. Always stay one update behind

Steve - thank you; it's a balance - I delay running the updates for some time after I see the notice that it's available for this reason. This update (3.3.10) was published on February 5th.

I have a back up service running as well so (Tim) can roll back (in theory) to the previous version if needed.

All of that is still no guarantee that something I do won't fubar the entire site though!!

I work my ass off. This place is where I come up for some (in)sanity. I guess after Saturday, I'm going to have to have my list of military history websites handy to read.

I get it. As a former MS server admin at university, had a 'team lead' who insisted we 'patch early, patch often'. Sigh.

After having to perform numerous restores from back up, impacting 'teaching-learning' time, several of us admins went to 'leadership' and said we're not following that policy anymore, fire us if you will.

The 'team lead' was, ahhh, relieved of duties.. a wonderful thing!
