Where did you find the used Russell Day Long????
Julie found mine and let me know when I was looking. Wasn't built for my big ass but wow what an improvement. The height takes a little getting used to but something else now hurts way before my back end. I hope you love it!!

Temperature in the high 60's today. Going for a nice long ride.
Did the seller have a similar weight and inseam as you? If not, be aware that there may need to be some adjustment involved for the first 1000 miles or may be a send back if the seat dimensions don't fit for your riding posture. Of course you already were aware of that.

Had to come into the office for a "special project" this afternoon, so with the beautiful weather today, I rode.

I've always wondered about that. Every RDL I see, they all look the same. Maybe there is a little more cushy in places, and maybe some angle that's hard to see? Or could I sit on the one built for you and the one built for me and feel the difference? Mine was built for a guy much lighter than me, using the lighter springs. I wouldn't change a thing.

I sold the RDL that came with my (used) 2011. It was built for someone with a much smaller stature and I found that it pushed me too far forward - to the point where it was significantly LESS comfortable than the stock seat. I might have been able to send it back to be reworked (at significant cost) but I had a friend who gave me a fair price for it. (I planned on getting another one but have managed with the stock seat for the last 100,000 km.)

The seat was made for a 180 lb rider. It only has 15,000 miles on it. The owner as a 28" inseam and has trouble contacting the ground with his feet. He wanted my stock seats and $100. Deal. I get both the rider and passenger Russell. I found it on Facebook Marketplace. I can swap seats for whatever riding I'm going to do. I also have the Yamaha Comfort Seat, a Corbin and a Laam.

I shouldn't have any trouble adapting to the Russell. None of my other seats were custom made for me and they're fine. Sometimes it's not the seat that's the problem. You have to ride enough to break in your ass.

I've looked at a lot of RDL's and they are pretty much all the same.... except the back rim might be lower or "flatter". Heavier springs for the heavyweights. Other than that, not much more "custom" to them if you ask me. If I were getting one again, I'd get their sport seat..... a bit flatter and maybe a tad thinner. Got one on the VFR, best one yet and the most comfortable RDL I've sat on.

I just got back from a 200 mile ride. I ended up near the Beallsville Diner and the SEO roads. The roads are already clean and beautiful.

Winter Wrenching Episode 5.

Not much was accomplished tonight - focus is elsewhere, but needed this distraction.

It started with a moment to reflect.
Image

I managed to get heated grips connected to a heat-troller controller and power to that. I got the plastic buttoned up and the tank back on. All that remains is to drain and refill the final drive fluid and to test the heated grips. Snow / Ice forecasted tomorrow, so I may look for a few more things to check / touch up to pass the time...

Winter Wrenching - Episode 6(?).

Power to grip heaters completed today; got the tail section buttoned up. Set fork compression, rebound and ride height settings, same for the rear shock (confirmed settings after it's return from service). Gas tank back on and buttoned up. Seat reinstalled.

I started it and let it warm up and turned on the grip heaters to test (they function as expected). I recorded the start up with intention of sending it to Wheaton if his valve check went any further side ways so he could remember what a running FJR sounded like. (Hey, I'm just here to help).
