The Angel ST was the predecessor to the Angle GT. Anybody have any experience with them?

Angel ST is the fast wearing and Angel GT longer lasting?

I know nothing about Angel STs. I do know that the Angel GT was NOT long lasting. For me. In the mountain roads of southern Appalachia.

For the GT, the "A spec" tire is not too bad for longevity but the older ST won't last as long as the GT (or newer GT II). Still, not a bad tire for that price - especially if you don't have to pay someone to change them.

Website says ST is predecessor to the GT. So my guess is they are going to be faster wearing. They have a GT II now. So the ST is an older design. Looks like maybe they are getting rid of them for good maybe?
At that price it is still interesting.

With no other choice and 400 miles from home, I went with the Angel GT A-spec rear a year or two ago. It didn't last 5,000 miles. If the ST is faster wearing than that, spend another $33.00 and buy the Dunlop Roadsmart 3.

Good advice Pants. I had two set of Angel GT spec A. I got about 7000k out of them but I seem to recall the squared off badly. I my give the
Roadsmarts 3's another try. I got 9300 miles of of a set of those but they were hard to mount.

They are hard to mount - I'm still at the point where I need a helper to get the second bead over the rim.

But purely based on value, it's still the best buy out there, even without the Dunlop rebate which seems to be on pause lately.

God, I hate the RS3s. Years ago I ran a set of Pirelli Angels. I wonder if they were the ST. I liked them.

I get a family discount with Michelins, otherwise I couldn't afford them. My repaired collarbone likes the Michelins. I'm prepared if that discount goes away, but I'd rather not. My collarbone painfully broke. Then my ortho guy said I healed...broke my collarbone AGAIN putting50% effort into getting a tire on. Louanne got on the horn and got determined that I didn't wait 4 weeks for surgery when it hurt like hell. She's sugary sweet on the outside, but is determined on the inside. Got that surgery date down to less than two weeks from date of injury. Felt better IMMEDIATELY.

I can try other brands, but for now, since I have a family discount, PR4s it is.

They are hard to mount - I'm still at the point where I need a helper to get the second bead over the rim.

Then you are doing it wrong. Work harder at holding the already-over bead in the center, especially the far side which is already on the rim all the way around. Hold the bottom side up, push the top side down, and only then pry the last over the rim.

If the first side is sitting on the rim when you are trying to lever the 2nd side over, the tire has to flex unnaturally which is why you are having so much trouble. Trying to think of the words to describe... When I mount a tire the last bead over is 180° opposite of where I am standing. The tire will flex easily for the left bead to be closer to the axle than the right bead. But at 90 and 270 for both left and right beads (top and bottom when mounting) to remain same distance from the axle but for one to shift away from me and the other not as you pry on the last section, that is unnatural and the cause of your difficulty. If you can put both tire beads in the rim drop center for 270° around (not really practical, but the point is to try) where the beads are already over the rim then the last will go much easier.

And I am not disagreeing. Just saying it shouldn't take 2 people to pry an RS3 on. If prying that hard there is a high risk of damaging the bead preventing a tubeless air seal.

If you have a NoMar and are using their pry "spoons" then one needs to take a grinder to the sharp edges of the square plate used to form the pry levers. Concentrated sharp point on the bead when the tire slides over. Only round the tire side.

I'm using a no mar. And I understand the reason it takes 2 people (for me) - the RS3 first bead won't sit in the center of the rim. It's probably the stiff sidewalls 'cause like others, I don't have this problem with the PR4GT. So the 2nd pair of hands holds it there while I spin the bar around. I've got a couple blocks of wood that I sometimes jam between the tire and the lower rim bead to help hold the tire in the center of the rim.

AFAIK - there is no law against 2 (or more) retired (semi) old farts getting together for a tire day. Being the rebellious bikers that we are, sometimes we even have a beer while changing tires. And on the ocassional time when we are feeling really sassy, we actually have some meaningless conversation too.

So for now, I'll stick with that plan....

Premature scalloping on the three I have run. I hate the vibration for the last 40% of their life.
