Re: Someone Added Weights To My Front Wheel
How much lead weight was in there? I have added weights to balance a bare wheel without tire to compensate for out of balance and when adding TPMS... both my FJR's had front wheels out of balance 30-50 grams and clip-on weights added at the factory. However, that still shouldn't have affected handling. Low tire pressure and perhaps that PR4 front may have been a factor. Curious how much weight was on there.

30-50 grams is 4 to 7 of the popular 7g (1/4 oz) weights. I've rarely had to use that much.

Re: Someone Added Weights To My Front Wheel
Kind of surprised the PR4GT is getting no love in this thread. I always thought it was a decent tire. Of course I am slow, so that might make a difference. My first set of PR4GTs I didn't run at high enough pressure. I did notice a fall off as they wore. After that I started running 40f, 42r. They wore well after that and I was happy with them. Very little cupping, etc.
Of course living where it's mostly flat I always wore the middle out way before the sides were really worn. I guess if I lived in the twisties I might have a different experience. The dual compound worked great for me.
I went to R6GT before I sold the 2013. I did like those better.
I have R5s on the MT09. I really like those too.

I have no love for the PR2 fronts...first try with that was enough. I have PR4s on and have not felt the issue being described yet.

Man I loved the PR2 - probably bought 15 of them over the years for my FJR, FZ6, FZ1 and 2 KTM supermoto990's. At least 3 or 4 track days using the PR2 with no problems...ever.wheatonFJR wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 11:53 am I have no love for the PR2 fronts...first try with that was enough. Re: Someone Added Weights To My Front Wheel
They were the hardest longest wearing except maybe the older Dunflops...... OK in summer, wore long but got a wee bit slippy when in the cool and wet. I only ever used one set. These days Dunflops are the harder ones.

Re: Someone Added Weights To My Front Wheel
I used PR2 rears until a couple years ago. But that PR2 front wore into a V the first half of my 2011 Kali trip. By the time I got to Skaggs Springs Road I was driving a 2wheeled pickup truck without power steering. It actually degraded the fun on the trip in NorCal. Rears fine, front? Nicht so gut.Bugnatr wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 1:02 pmMan I loved the PR2 - probably bought 15 of them over the years for my FJR, FZ6, FZ1 and 2 KTM supermoto990's. You probably didn't have a fully loaded, long trip FJR on your track days, jes sayin. Re: Someone Added Weights To My Front Wheel
Wow, didn't think anyone would believe weights were found inside the tire!
No weights were found inside the tire.
The bike felt very heavy in the nose, even with 41 psi.
The front feels much lighter with the new tires, just like y'all said it would!!!

Glad a simple tire changed it. Worn tires suck.

I did many fully loaded trips with them on my 04 FJR including many runs over a buck forty in Nevada. These were my go to tires for years is ALL types of riding. Probably racked up at least 150,000 miles on them between the bikes but what do I knowwheatonFJR wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 2:28 pmYou probably didn't have a fully loaded, long trip FJR on your track days, jes sayin. My favorite tire on my FZ1 is the PR2. I'm eager to see how the Road 6s on the FJR are.

Why only a buck forty? Tire pressure issues? LolBugnatr wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 3:20 pmI did many fully loaded trips with them on my 04 FJR including many runs over a buck forty in Nevada. Re: Someone Added Weights To My Front Wheel
I have a little different perspective. On my 15ES I was running 42-42 and really cupped/scalloped a new RS3 in front quickly. I'm 250 lbs. and would blast the straights and brake hard coming into the turns. That was a sure recipe for destroying front tires. Got the suggestion here to adjust speed going in and power out. Much better life on front tires. I never felt like the FJR handled heavy in the fornt end, until I picked up my 14 BMW GS. I was amazed how nimble feeling the front end felt, and how little effort it took to ride twisties. I never expected that, based on the height and size of the bike. But, after getting used to the GS, when I got on the FJR, it felt very heavy and wanting to fall in at low speed just as the original poster stated. It definitely requires you to muscle it in and out of turns much more than the GS. Tires on the FJR are Pirelli Angel GTs with less than 1,000 mi. with 42-42. I usually ride the FJR with empty bags set on 1 helmet plus bags. Never experimented with 2 helmets plus bags to see if this would change the front heavy feel. Everybody here that has waited for me, realizes I am not a fast rider, but fast enough for me to have fun. Following Pants and the boys back from Cheaha at SFO had me working pretty hard to keep up with the group, but I did on the GS. It's interesting the difference in handling feel of these two bikes. IMHO the GS is easier to ride in the twisties for me. Maybe it's just a confidence thing, but I don't know?

Re: Someone Added Weights To My Front Wheel
Yes, that is normal for a PR4/PR4GT the 2nd half of it's tread life. Doesn't matter the pressure. Thats why I don't like it on the front. Don't have the same problem on the rear. A friend swears at his front PR4 near the end but dutifully buys another, "Because... Michelin can do no wrong!" Yet he hated the R5, it wore quicker and handled poorer as it wore.
T31GT is the only front tire I have used which handled and steered sweet to the very end. Also the longest lasting tire I have used. Do not like the T30 Evo or T31. But once again oddly I don't like the T31GT on the rear. I do like the PR4GT on the rear.

Re: Someone Added Weights To My Front Wheel
Tires, and people (especially the Bugnatr) are funny things. Without a doubt, the single set of PR2s I ran were the worst set of tires I have experienced in over 600k miles of FJR riding. Freaking HATED them. Now... unlike so many around here, I love the PR4s. Probably my favorite tire right now. Have run through several sets shredding the Alps in Europe fully loaded two up. Non GT spec even. Back here stateside, I almost always run a car tire in the rear but the PR4 front is still my favorite. After running three RS2 and RS3s, I will never run another again as they scallop too quickly. Maybe I'll try a RS4 someday, but I doubt it.Bugnatr wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 3:20 pmI did many fully loaded trips with them on my 04 FJR including many runs over a buck forty in Nevada. Tires are funny things. Bugnatr is even funnier.
I respect both my Minnesotan and my Wheaton buddy...and it KILLS me to say this, but my experience has matched funny lookin SkooterGs...so far. This is my first set of PR4s, so far so good..front is good for one more mountain day ride, but the front did not complain at all on some of Appalacian's finest on the Saturday after Thanksgiving with Lumberg and 1911.
