Reverse Farkle!

Post by FJRex »

I recently acquired an '05 FJR. It came with a Corbin seat, a Sargent seat and the stock seat. On my 1st 200 mile ride the Sargent seat was installed and after about 150 miles my butt was sore. This past Saturday we got in another 200 miles but this time the stock seat was used. My butt never got sore with the stock seat. I may have a Sargent seat up for sale soon. I'll try the Corbin seat next.

FJRex,

I have a Corbin seat, and I hear they are hard. I'd say firm, but IF it fits you, then it is fine. It does help to get feet on the ground, for the inseam challenged. You will know the riders who have a misfit Corbin seat; they really don't like it. I would take the Corbin for a short ride, not an hours-long journey, to see if it suits you.

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.
Yeah, I ride motorcycles. I know why dogs put their heads out of the car windows.
Yeah, I fly hang gliders (3000 hrs.+). I know why the birds sing.

I quite often use my stock seat for mountain day rides of moderate (300miles) length. I will even do it for a full day. I use the Russell for anything else, because I like to take long multi-day trips...and hope to get back to doing that soon.

Re: Corbins.... there are two types, smooth cover means little/no padding, stitch-patterned covers have a bit of foam.... covers are rivetted on to their base pan. Depending on the bike, some Corbins are awesome, the one on my Versys 1000 is. They are lower, and hard, but the right shape. To fix one, unrivet the cover and put in a layer of foam. If you don't want to go that route, add a pad on top, or even a sheepskin will help.

Duct tape can't fix stupid, but it can sure muffle the sound.

My 1992 BMW K75RT came with a Corbin saddle new. It had the "basket weave" pattern embossed. It had a distinct "pocket" that eliminated moving much, was only thinly padded but was comfortable. I had done 600 mi days without problems. I rode that Beemer for 18 yrs. and never thought of changing the seat.
