Iphone Holder (to use while riding)
I've used my Garmin 660 "mostly" successfully for many years. On the trip back from EOM it took me the wrong way once (could have been a waypoint), and we ran into a traffic stop once that wasn't there when we left. My wife reading her iphone on my back was helpful but I kept waiting for her words "I dropped it".
So, is there an EASY to install and see contraption that will hold a regular sized Iphone? I don't need power. I just would like to be able to look at Waze/Maps once an hour to verify traffic conditions haven't changed and I'm still on the right road. So something easily accessible and easy to install? I already have my gps mounted on a ram mount on the heli risers right in front of the gas tank. How do you attach something to the handlebars?
I should have looked more closely at the bikes at EOM. Some of them looked like they bought out Circuit City.
Thanks,
Don

I have a phone mount from Ram Mounts - does wireless charging. They have options that are non-charging.

I use a Slip Grip mount and am quite happy with it.

Phone specific so they fit nice. Variations available for RAM mount. Easy to get phone in and out of the mount.

Re: Iphone Holder (to use while riding)
I've recently completed a thorough, 8k mile, cross country road test of a Quad Lock mount with my iPhone; it performed flawlessly. I use the inductive charging Quad Lock with the anti-vibration add-on and it plugs into the USB port on my Super Tenere's dash (until I get around to hard wiring it to the Eastern Beaver PC8). The Quad Lock has a positive locking system, so it's easy to tell it's secure. I use a RAM handlebar clamp to hold the Quad Lock, but the FJR can easily accommodate a RAM ball on the handlebars (or elsewhere). Perhaps the biggest caveat with the Quad Lock is having to use their case with your phone; it has a bulge on the back of the phone to accommodate its locking lugs. Personally, I don't have a problem with that quirk, but some may.
I also had Quad Lock's phone condom, but I found that it trapped more water around the phone than it kept out, so I quit using it. In my case, with the Super Tenere, the phone is mounted upright in the air stream (see photo), so any rain was easily able to force itself into the edges of the condom. I suspect it'd do much better with a phone mounted out of the direct air stream and perhaps not so upright. My phone wound up fine without the rain condom.
Not the greatest photo, but an example showing where the Quad Lock holds the phone on my Super Tenere, while underway.
You can just make out the Quad Lock puck on my handlebars (bike on left).

Re: Iphone Holder (to use while riding)
Before you do this, do some research. The vibrations are not good for the cameras in modern phones and many have ruined their phones by running them on their handlebars. Many have not also but it's good to know the risks before you go down this path.

Re: Iphone Holder (to use while riding)
I've used the quad lock for several years now with over 50K miles, no issues with the mount or charging system. I do use the vibration damper set up and quad lock makes a charging system the plugs into the wireless adaptor that allows the phone to charge intermittently instead of charging all the time and relying on the phone to say enough. It is very positive as to whether it is in the cradle or not. No mistaking it is secure to lose it a few miles down the road. I do plug into the cable port on the phone to run apple car play on the wing. Don't know if the newer FJR support that yet or not. Hands down the best phone mount I have found. With the iPhone I don't bother with the rain cover. They are good to 3 feet submerged in water, and rain is not an issue with it.

I'm old and have reading glasses mounted to the back of my phone case so I'm not going to be able to use the Quad Case, although that certainly seems like a great system. Looking at the other options mentioned.....

Re: Iphone Holder (to use while riding)
I used one similar on a throw away phone testing some offline apps. Never had a problem with the mount. Mine had some rubber on the inside of the grips and the phones never went anywhere. I did however use it horizontally.D-Eagle wrote: ↑Tue Sep 20, 2022 3:20 pmThat just looks scary. It doesn't slide at all? While pricey, the following tend to be popular as well, and offer some wireless charging mounts as well as vibration dampening mounts. I've seen good reports from folks using them offroad and never had their phone move a bit.

Re: Iphone Holder (to use while riding)
I haven’t had it slide yet. Like Jasen said, it has rubber like pads where the phone touches, plus it comes with the rubber strap, in case you want that extra assurance. It works with phone cases too.D-Eagle wrote: ↑Tue Sep 20, 2022 3:20 pmThat just looks scary. It doesn't slide at all? Thanks all. I think I'm between the Hondo and the Tackform one. Both seem like great choices and easy (which is what I'm looking for) to mount and use.

I have progressive lenses glasses. Top for distance and bottom for reading. I can see the dash and far away. They work for me but some say they throw off their balance.
Maybe that is way I am so slow.

Seems there is a threaded hole next to the clutch fluid that is not used if I remember right? What size is that?
Looks like some options for holders that may fit that.

Re: Iphone Holder (to use while riding)
Now I've gone down the rabbit hole of reading about all of the Iphone's that died because of vibration.
As I finally upgraded to a new phone after 9 years, I'm not excited about it dying.
Quad Lock looks to have at least tried to address this.
