Bent rim - can it be straightened?
A bad pothole - slight ding on the edge of the rim (bead is still seated fine). Bike rides and tracks fine.
Has anyone had a FJR rim straightened - and if so, who did it??
Thanks for any info and advice. -Glen

Paging Panman to the white courtesy phone! Wrong side of the country but he's had a front & rear straightened by an outfit in the Seattle metro area.

Re: Bent rim - can it be straightened?
Like you I dinged my front rim 11 years ago. Yours should be easy to fix by the sounds of it.
Mine was fixed by a place in Canada close to me that isn't around anymore, so no help there.
I would suggest calling local bike shops for help in locating a shop near you that can repair it.

Send pictures to Woody's Wheel Works - they are the Gold Standard of Wheel Repair.

I've had several dealings with Woody's. They do not attempt to blow smoke up your ass, they are honest, reasonable, and do the job right the first time. No surprises in the bill.

Am confused on how an FJR wheel is any different to repair than any other cast aluminum wheel?

Glen - I know there is a place in Atlanta, GA that JWilly used a couple times for dinged FJR wheels. My front wheel is dinged, but holds air and does not seem to affect handling (at least what I can tell).

Is either a chain or a lot of businesses using the same name, but in Huntsville we have one called "Wheel Fix It". (we'll fix it). Apparently others with the same name in other cities.

I found this place. I never used them, but they look and sound good. Interesting point about factory spec being very large tolerance , and they get rims much better than factory limit.

Thanks! I have also found several others including MC Wheel in AZ, The Wheel Warehouse in OH, and Woody's Wheel Works in CO.Road Runner wrote: ↑Sun Jul 03, 2022 6:47 am I found this place. On the "other fourm" I have been cautioned about having it straightened because of Yamaha's statement to "Never attempt to make any repairs to the wheel." I'm sure some damage shouldn't be repaired and that Yamaha is concerned ablut liability. I'm also sure these companies wouldn't be in business if they wee having issues of failure of repaired/straightened wheels.
Mine is still rideable so I'm evaluating the repair vs finding a used wheel somewhere.

Re: Bent rim - can it be straightened?
Any place that straightens wheels will refuse to straighten if they feel the results won't be safe, but obviously they'll need to see it first. Yours sounds quite doable.

Re: Bent rim - can it be straightened?
As you can tell, a few owners have had to straighten a wheel or two and I have never heard of anyone having any issues. It is important to note that Yamaha also requires the entire brake system be replaced at around 25,000 miles, if I remember right. I have not yet heard of anyone doing that yet.senecahome wrote: ↑Sun Jul 03, 2022 7:30 amThanks! What lawyers say needs to be done and what really needs done can be two very different things!
Lol.

Re: Bent rim - can it be straightened?
I've had three bent rims, there was a guy in Renton that is no longer around. He fixed two out of three, third he cracked.
