What did you do to your FJR today?

Rode it to Stagecoach. Natehawk had a cold Red Bull waiting for me, which was awesome. I didn’t stay very long. There were maybe 100 riders there when I left. I hear it was triple that not long after.

First part of the day was chilly and served up heavy storms. Middle part was dry and 85F. Last part was back to chilly and heavy storms. It was a good ride.

Woohoo...and on the last day of the year, the sun came out with temps around 50°, so I dug the bike out and took a little 100+ mile ride down through Amish country. No pictures, but can assure you it happened...adios 2021

Not mine, but I helped my son pry on some new PR4s. That old set was over 6 years old. Working full time and going to Tech College at night limits limited his riding. Now that he works full time at Michelin, he has more time to play.


Those old tires were HARD and STIFF, pain in the ASS to GET OFF!

Put the '22 tabs on it and made sure the tender was plugged in. Temp showed a high of - 0.3F yesterday.

At -15F right now. At least this seemed like a heatwave, as BIL said it was -33F in Moorhead.

Checked tyre pressures (needed a couple of psi at each end) and washed the filthy beast, in preparation for going the 200-odd miles to brother and sister-in-law's on Tuesday. Hopefully. Dependent on Covid and weather.

Not really sure why I washed it, it'll probably be completely covered in much more filth by the time I get there.

(Washed the car as well, habit from when I didn't dare wash the bike unless I washed Her car first.)

Looked at the FJR as I drove the car out of the garage. Weather likely to be wintry on the day of my return, I don't "do" snow.

At least the FJR won't get filthy.

Started yesterday on a valve check, plug change, and coolant flush. 31,800 miles and not surprisingly all valves within spec. Spark plugs looked really good and have never been changed until today. Finishing buttoning things up but no rush to get it done. Our roads are ice cover and sleet freezing rain in forecast. Doubt I'll get to ride this entire week.

Packed it. Only an overnight ride, but I'll take it. 40 degrees tomorrow morning, warming to 70. Should be fun!!

In colder temps bring the wheels and tires in the house for 24 hours (my wife absolutely loves when I put tires next to the wood stove ) and warm the rubber up. Makes it so much easier to remove that stubborn rubber.

Those old tars (6 years since they were pried on in 2015, and who knows how much since they were manufactured) were hard as all get out...they were also bonded VERY much to the rim and bead. Good news...did NOT break the repaired collarbone shoehorning those things off. It was a relatively warm day, not like the frozen tundra we have now. I knew I could get them off, it was just a beotch! I told David that it won't usually be that difficult as he will be riding more now. The PR4s that he bought online, THEN got an additional 30% Michelin employee discount over that, made those PR4s reasonably priced. I feel much better with him off those old TARS. Should be some good father/son mild cruising around time in the months and years ahead.

Just managed to score a Penske 8983 shock on eBay that appears to have been worked on by Traxxion Dynamics with a 900lb spring for only $250 that was freshly listed. Once it arrives I'll send it back down to Traxxion and have them go over it and make sure that's the correct spring for me then install it when I do my upcoming relay arm service. Wasn't really looking for a replacement rear shock just yet at only 32k miles on my 2014 but couldn't pass up the deal.

New to me front and rear rotors. But now the front is dragging a bit.. probably rear master cylinder too full, slightly pressurizing the system?

Save yer money..... it's the right spring if you're 200+ one up.. back the compression damping off a tad. Bargoon though...... don't rebuild it until it's leakin'. Ditch the OEM off your bike now and put it on the shelf until the Penske's startin' to leak... prolly take a while if there's not much mileage on it.

Dip a clean paper towel in and soak up a teaspoon full if that's the case... just at/below the full mark....

Pics in the eBay ad showed the shock came from Traxxion Dynamics in 2013. No idea if it's been serviced or not in the past several years but pics of bike odo showed 167k miles. I guess my thoughts are if I send it out before I bother installing it I can install a fresh shock and not sweat it. Would hate to put it on and have to swap it back out right after if it does leak.
With gear on one up I break 200 pounds. Really need to work on that but for now that's still the number.
