That's still a lot of riding.... at my peak a few years ago, I did 25k kms./year, then tapered off to under 20k, more recently 15k average. I'm fading out, lol..... don't know how many years I got left before I have to give it up (sigh).

About [embarrassed] 3500 [/embarrassed].

Of course, Covid is making quite a difference; my usual, pre-Covid, annual average is about 8000 (high for most UK riders).

A couple of trips planned for this year, Spain in May, Scotland in September, if these go ahead I should be back to nearer the average.

I am having doubts that we will be allowed to go to Spain, and I'm not too sure I shall still be riding in September, far too many birthdays.

Mr Atrophy, I sure HOPE you can be riding in the fall. Quite frankly, I hope I’m riding in the fall. But quoting BigJohn’s tagline, eat every sandwich like it’s your last.

I've just worked out why we call the season after summer "autumn". For a motorcyclist riding then, "fall" has all the wrong connotations.

Oh, these days I make my own sandwiches, so the sandwich itself is quite likely to be the cause of its being my last.

Meanwhile, I shall keep trying to continue to increase my motorcycling miles for as long as I can, I am absolutely sure it's keeping me much fitter, mentally and physically, than would be the case if I wasn't riding. Even so, my "(mc)atrophy" name is becoming more and more appropriate. Mentally and physically. So don't expect any mileage from me that might compete with any other posted here.

Same here.

May all our miles be good miles…

On a related matter, I rode my bicycle 2,851 miles over 129 separate rides. Most rides were about 25 miles by myself.

Terrific exercise.

I am loving my bicycle riding. Right now 10-15 miles is a good day for me. Not a kick ass day. Easy recovery.
I have a 46 mile paved rail to trail path a few blocks away. No cars and no big hills.
I am on the North end of the trail right at the end.
Sometimes in 2022 my lovely wife will drop me off at the south end and I will peddle home or as far as I can.

Wing 13,450
S10 8,200
KLR 1,020

Total 22,670

Seems like I have been averaging 20k+ a year ever since I tumbled down the road with Bambi in 2012 but for some strange reason that isn't as easy as just a few years ago. :?

How Much Did You Ride In 2021?

43k but not all on the FJR. Had considerable downtime with a broken mirror stay, a couple rear subframe failures and of course the 2nd gear recall. Had to call the Hondapotamus into 1-up service.

2021 was not a great riding year for me...other than 2019, it was my lowest mileage year since I started keeping track in 2006.

FJR: 5682
YZF: 2041
BMW: 2641
Total: 10364 miles

I got in a lot of day rides for coffee in Idyllwild or for carne asada burritos at the taco shop in Campo down near the border. There were three overnight trips to Poway to visit the in-laws. The only big trip was in September, an 8-day/4125 mile ride on the FJR with my buddy. We headed up into Utah, Idaho, Montana, back across Idaho to Oregon, and then down the coast back into SoCal. The last two days coming down the coast on a Sat/Sun was a huge tactical error, with so much stupid weekend traffic. I'll know better next time.

In November I retired my old '99 R1100RT-P. I took it out for a 370 mile ride to warm up the oil for a 24K mile service. During the ride I heard a couple of odd noises from the gear box, and once got a whiff of gear oil. That ain't normal. I got home, drained the engine and gearbox oils. The gearbox magnetic drain plug had a lot of metal fuzz stuck to it, and I was able to pick out several more bits of metal from the drain hole. It looked like a bearing had finally let go...that gearbox was toast. But at least it got me home! I briefly pondered repairing the box and keep on riding the thing...but it was 22 years old with 172000 miles on it. The cost of repairs would exceed the value of the bike. Plus, I was just tired of working on it. I've split the bike and lifted the frame probably five times for gearbox or clutch work over the years. I didn't feel like doing it again. I called a guy in Long Beach that buys old BMWs for scrap. He came out, loaded it on a trailer and gave me $300 for it. He'll make way more than that just for the Ohlins shocks that were on it. I was sad to see it go...we had a good 16 years and 122000 miles of touring, saw a lot of really good stuff. But now I have so much more space in my garage, and the two Yamahas will be a lot less work to maintain.

I hope to get a lot more miles in 2022! I've got airplane stuff to do in TX this spring, but I'm hoping for big miles in the fall.

I am addicted to peloton, and trying to figure out my approach for when it gets warmer and I move outside. I don’t want to take time to go to the mtb trails. Trying to decide on something for pavement, so I can just get on and go from home. Separate thread engage.
