Last ride to of the season before they start salting the roads.

Oil warmed and drained. Time to start the winter maintenance list.

It’s now Ural season 😉

Rode them to look at Hiawassee Meeting Hall. One of us had to look at all 4 sides.

That is a good ride - nice way to get to or from Tellico Plains. Good camping at the north end of that road too.

Ignored it. Ordered replacement passenger pegs and rubber, so if or when I replace this bike, I can just pull the floorboards off. The wife gave me strict orders not to let her floorboards go with the bike.

Also ordered replacement bar end weights. I scratched mine up terribly using a metal air chuck to install grip puppies. I was so worried about getting the foam on that I didn’t realize I was destroying the finish on the bar ends. I am a one man wrecking crew.

Ha, shoulda taken the bar ends off, lol.... what's that old saying, knowledge sometimes comes right after you needed it? :D :D

Do you like the Gen3 rubbers? I didn't (too squishy) and retrofitted Gen1/2 rubbers which are firmer... personal preference.

Mechanically inclined, I’m not. :) I’ve never tried the earlier gens, so I don’t know. These are pretty much only going on if the bike is going away.

Rode to work today but more important and interesting was Sunday's ride.

The Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend has for 36 years now been the day of the Turkey Pro National Slow Race in Oley,PA. Located only minutes from Maple Grove Raceway, and NHRA track that features some of the quickest and fastest wheeled vehicles around, Oley features the "wretched rectangle" a less than 100 yard total length course laid out on the grass of a fairgrounds.

This treacherous course sees competitors hit speed usually reserved for nursing home hallways. If you've never witnessed a slow race what it amounts too is this: competitors traverse the course as slowly as possible without falling over or having to put their foot down to prevent falling. This event starts 2 riders at a time heading opposite directions with each having a field judge walking alongside them to watch if they put a foot down while a timing judge in the middle of the track observes both riders and uses a stopwatch to track their times. Slowest rider around the course wins and takes home the trophy.

The winners name is engraved on a plaque and they have the "honor" of keeping the monstrosity, I mean trophy, until next year. One of the highlights though of the event is some of the bikes that appear that are seen rarely i the wild.

1936 Moto Guzzi single. Exposed valve gear and a "total loss" oiling system means oil dripping whenever it's running. This thing couldn't be green if you painted it.

Mike P and I had 250 miles of good riding. Left the house at 60 degrees and fog burning off. High was 75 and plenty of sunshine. Mexican Taco salad for lunch (decent). 46 MPG on the tank - not pushing it, clearly.

It's good now, ya'll. Come south and I'll show you around....

Dropped it off at the small town dealer I bought it from (14 years ago now). They said they're 3 weeks behind. Cool, it's December in the Midwest, I'm not riding anytime soon.

New tires, valve check, and "treat it like you bought it from craigslist sight unseen and you need to ride it to CA" were my only listed items.

A little upset that the two small shops I've used to swap tires in the past have closed up, but this dealer has never treated me wrong.

Put it on the lift, cleaned it up, and shoved it over to the side of the garage. The KLX went into the corner also in prep to start parking the Tacoma in the garage. Sad day but it looks like the season of riding is over.


I did run both bikes for about 10 min to let them get up to temp. Flipped the petcock off on the KLX and let it run out of fuel. It just makes it easier to start later.

It wasn’t cold in the garage with my new heater. Took the temp from the middle 40s to upper lower 60s in about 10 minutes.

Moved it to it's winter resting spot yesterday at the back of the garage, and plugged in the battery tender...haven't ridden much, and put it away dirty. The wife asked if I was turning into Andy...LOL

Already had #10 wire installed when they built the house. I went back and forth with if I should upsize the wire to #8 or not. I did some research and concluded I would be okay. My run is very short. The panel is just to the right of the door you see in the picture. Something less than 15 feet. The dedicated double breaker was already in there as well.

What sold me on it being okay is that it has selectable wattage. 3000W, 4500W, or 6000W. I am not going to run it on the 6000W setting.

The biggest complaint (and only that I could find online in the reviews) was that it shuts off too quickly via the thermostat. The fix is to uncoil the 2 foot wire and run it out the back of the unit. The white wire hanging down below the red numbers is the thermostat. It still shuts off a little sooner than it should since all the heat rises. My fan needs to mix the air better.

Digital read out and remote are so nice!

I could set the thermostat at whatever, but I only plan to use it while working out there. It does take the chill off the garage in short order. I have not used it with really cold temps yet, but as long as I can keep it above 50 when I am in the garage, that will be just fine for a hoody.

6000W / 240 is about 25 amps.... so yes, double 30 amp breaker and 10 ga. wire recommended to run it full bore.
4500W / 240 is about 19 amps, so as long as you'll never use the 6000 setting, 12 ga. wire and double 20 breaker will get you by.... but with little headroom.

That is what I have in the box. Thanks for the confirmation. I worry about my own research sometimes.
