Back to Cobalt Blue. $200 price increase. No other changes I can see. At least they are still making it.

In Canada, it is a 20th anniversary edition. Black with gold rims and emblems.

Don't you have a couple or three 2004s to get rid of first? :)

Personally, I'm glad Yamaha is still making them. A great, beautifully looking machine that has few design faults and rides to wherever you want to go on this planet! (Assuming it is paved of course) Some throw caution to the wind and even take it where it is not meant to go...cue youtube video of rider taking FJR offroading.

Or https://www.yamahamotorsports.com/sport ... /fjr1300es without the tracking tags.

I note the A is not available, again. IIRC they did that some other year as well.

Not making the "A" suggests to me they are winding down the model to move spare parts. As I've said before just look at what Honda did to wind down the PC800 production. Features started disappearing after 1996. Ran out of front fenders and self-canceling turn signals. The plastics had 1994 or older mold dates even in 1998. It may be that a limited run is being produced to clear excess parts. So if you want one, get it now while you still can.

Me I don't need one, especially a new one. US one has black side adjustable panels, not sure if the Canajan ones are painted or not. Shoulda given us a colour, too many years in a row of black, WTF. Stole the gold wheels off last year's Euro special edition..... meh.
ES only, I expected that, gotta have toys to play with.... It would have been cooler (to me) had they brought out a USD version of the A, and I don't think it would have been difficult to do so at all.
Nice to see they continued it, count your lucky stars I guess.....

I think the Canadian ones are the same (black plastic) as the US ones. Doesn't have the same sheen as a gloss painted surface.
Might have been nice to see a return of the liquid silver color. They haven't used it since 2011. Or even the 2007 black cherry...

Well, not if they have ES suspension parts in hand and would have to order A suspension parts. Plus as you say they are using the European gold wheels only in Canada which suggests they didn't sell as many in Europe the last year as they ordered parts so "Canada is a relatively small market, we'll unload the excess shiny wheels there."

My plan A never seems to happen. I figured I would keep the 2013 FJR and the MT09. Then trade both in on the newest version of the FJ09 a couple of years down the road. Smaller bike I could handle as I get older. It would be a tourer and day rider. One nice affordable bike.

Then cobalt blue ES!

That checks the boxes for me. That is the perfect color and an ES matches my abilities and riding style.

Yamaha your killing me.

Been texting my wife pictures of the 2022. I think she put me on ignore.

My take is everybody wants all the bells and whistles now. So Yamaha is giving them that with the ES.

Really I think the only people that will miss the A are you really good riders. You are not buying the A cause it's cheaper. You are buying it because you can modify it easier. Probably not a big enough market for Yamaha.
To Yamaha marketing it was just a cheaper version no longer needed due to changes in the market.

I don't think you understand modern manufacturing very well. There is nothing stockpiled waiting to be used up, that's so old school. Stuff is made to order and shipped to the assembly plant. Not hard to fire up the injection mold machine to make a run of fenders. Stuff doesn't cost what you think it does or retails for. Could easily strip out ES forks and put real cartridges in them, requires a rear end rethink and ditching all the electronics.... but they are going to do what sells or what they think will sell to the majority of buyers, obviously that's ES.
