tapered steering-head bearing

Post by palerider »

Hi,

A friend is looking at a 2006AE and asked the PO if he had replaced the steering-head bearing with a tapered-roller bearing. The PO said he thought he had, but he couldn't remember for sure.

Is there any way to tell visually--ie without taking the bike apart--if the steering bearing has been replaced?

Thanks. Is there a detectable difference between the ball and tapered bearings that you can feel when you ride?

actually I might say negligible. hard to compare balls with 50K on them to New rollers with zero. steering Headshake went away when i got them torqued correctly, but I would say that it would have gone away had i had the factory rollers torque correct also....
