Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
Wrench Day today:
1. Checked valves - all good.
2. New Spark Plugs. The old ones with 29K on them certainly look just fine. Motor is burning clean.
3. Changed engine oil and filter.
4. Changed rear end oil. Yes - I torqued the drain plug!!
5. Installed a little something given to me by someone special
Next front tire change, I'll change the fork oil. At 81K miles, she sure is in good shape!

The left bracket on the /img tag of the second image is backwards.
I always love it when I do a valve check with no adjustments needed. Plugs don't look dreadful but clearly need replacement. Electrodes are quite eroded. Insulator on the #2 is significantly darker - wonder if anything is going on? Not horrible, just different.

Thanks for the bracket notice, fixed it.
I see what you are saying re:#2. Not sure - I’m definitely not worried about it. They all gapped at 0.005-0.008 over.

Only 7,000
Still has the same rear tire I mounted.
It wasn’t abused but it was neglected.
All cleaned up then time to start some regular maintenance. I sure do like the 5 speed.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
I think you had a little less than I had on my '07 when I sold it - had 295,000 km. I assume you are not swapping out motor (I wondered when you asked about cleaning up an oxidized casting...) Doing anything else with it or just restoring to its former glory? I guess it becomes the hooligan bike and the 2018 gets the nod for long distance trips?Canadian FJR wrote: ↑Sat Nov 06, 2021 7:09 pm Only 7,000

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
I worked on my former '14 Root Beer today, it came to my shop and got the whole rear suspension pivot servicing, including removing the centerstand..... fun, all bearings and bushings were good, I had greased when the bike was new, except the front upper. Surprised it was in such good shape. Also did an oil and filter change.

Started installing a set of Clearwater darlas on the forks. Turned on some Metallica and the next thing I knew every electronic accessory was off the bike for reconfiguration and complete rewire clean up.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
Rode Richard Russell Raceway and Blood mountain. Came close to riding wolf pen gap too. Trying to figure out if I want to make a key west run, or just do back to back days of shredding in the mountains. Or both.
Off Thursday-Sunday this week. Rear tire replacement is due, tire is on the way.

Mountain road conditions will continue to deteriorate. Key West will continue to be awesome through the winter. Ride mountains now, KW later.

Today, tires (if FedEx decides to work today). I’m going to zero out my trip meter and see what I can get done Friday-Saturday.

Confirmed front wheel is bent. Only manifests at around 30mph. So I’m in the market for another front wheel or another bike. I can get this one fixed, but wouldn’t go through the hassle unless I’ve got something to run in the mean time.

I'm guessing that this will still not slow you down to wheaton speeds.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
Do you know how it got bent? I would confirm the radial and axial runout on the bare wheel by putting it on a balancer and turning it while using a dial indicator. A slight bend on one outer rim shouldn't hurt much, both rims bent another story. If not a problem at higher speeds then perhaps not as bad as you think. But you don't know until you get a dial indicator on it.
I would get it straightened.... I'd think if pre-arranged a shop could straighten that up in short order to minimize downtime. Spare wheels rarely come up for sale, and new ones are kinda spendy once you add up all the bearings, etc. you need.

Bill - get it straightened at that place in Hotlanta that Jwilly uses. He bends them all the time.
