Mirror on my 2020

So yesterday I noticed the mirror was loose, was thinking it was the external nut. Its not, how hard is it, to get to the internal one, and has anyone else had this issue? Never a problem on the 08 which had 70k on her. thanks. Brian

Likely the internal support. Have you dropped the bike or bumped the mirror hard?
Mirror subframe is excessively brittle cast metal and quite a few have been broken. Major pain in the ass to replace. Some people have had success with an epoxy repair and/or a metal splint.

I’ve never had a mirror come loose. It’s not hard to access things underneath. Pull the headlight adjuster knobs, then the dash surround. I don’t recall if the battery cover had to come off or not. It wasn’t hard.

thanks, no, the bike hasnt been dropped or bumped against anything...maybe it was the high rates of speed on the 2500 mile trip! It so weird, I go back she sat for 3 weeks, did the service on her myself...then yesterday I was like WTF...I will give it a try this weekend...thanks guys.

Hopefully it is just loose. It will be apparent once you open it up. Good luck.

Betting you find a loose nut on the inside... must remove center instrument cover to access it.... some have had loose ones.

I had a mirror that was “rattling”. It turned out to be the stack of washers that had compressed and essentially nested themselves. The washers are supposed to be opposing. Meaning a concave one is next to a convex one and another concave one and so on. When you tighten them down, they create a spring of sorts to hold tight. Mine may have been over tightened or I put them back wrong when I removed the mirror. Redfish helped me out one day and now I have them arranged properly and my mirror is rock solid. Check this first before you disassemble your dash.
I often have found myself when I was not looking, nor did that discovery take place where I thought it would!

As standard, washers are in pairs - (())(()).

My right mirror was loose and found one of the two nuts missing and the other very loose. I procured a new nut and they were all removed and reinstalled with a small drop of locktite.
Have you done anything to improve your rider skills or knowledge lately?

Note, the mirrors are a dealer-installed item, as is the front wheel, windshield, etc....

Update- it was loose nuts on the right hand side, all tightened up, and while I was in there, the left hand one was not up to standards either, so I fixed them as well. I didnt use any locktite, as some research said not to. I am assuming they will be good now. Thanks for the info.

Just so you know ...

When you DO Drop it and break the support arm, three or four well-placed zipties can hold that sucker steady for ... 10,000 miles and counting.

Loctite isn't a problem as long as you keep it off plastic.... it can eat plastic. Put a drop on after the studs are through the fairing, or in the threads of the nuts.
