Put rear brakes on it, changed the final drive oil, rode it.

Replaced the air filter. Not terribly discolored, but man, the dust and silicate that came smoking out when I pulled it.. Cleared the CEL from running it on the stand to check the rear tire/wheel for damage or irregularity this weekend.

Riding in temps in the 60s to 80s as we fluctuate between 7000ft elevation plateaus and 10,000 ft passes. Pretty darn awesome. Now I remember why I bought this FJR. In Chama, NM, looking to getting to Pagosa Springs…

Twas the night before NAFO departure, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, except a jackass in the garage splitting a caliper open. Ugh. Been fighting a bad dragging caliper for a few days now since I discovered it. Had All Balls overnight a rebuild kit. One very sticky piston and one pretty sticky piston. All cleaned up, put back together, primed and bled. Will do some more bleeding tomorrow prior to departure. Not how I wanted to spend my last night at home with the family but such is life.

Oh, and thanks to Nissin Q/A team for missing this metal shaving wedged into the orifice between the two calipers.

Rode beautiful scenery with 10000ft passes keeping the temps cool.
Griff won the internet by finding a new breakfast gem, Brenda’ Old West Cafe in Bayfield Colorado. 10/10 breakfast. Can’t say enough.
Rode in a fun pace at locations with less traffic. I believe we spotted FYB and Burnspot coming in the opposite direction as they were coming up from Mesa Verde and we were heading down to Cortez. In Cortez tonight eating at an excellent Mexican restaurant I first ate at with 3 other FJR riders in 2008. Ate there again in 2013 with Louanne. Top notch for Wheaton standards. La Casita de Cortez. Remember that name if yer in Cortez!

Edit: Epic screwup by me. The restaurant was Tequilas, NOT the one mentioned above. The restaurant above gets no recommendation from me. I screwed up again. f@$k!

Funny, the bison was best part of the wildlife loop on my western trip to South Dakota/Wyoming in June (seems so long ago) they just wonder on to road and take their time crossing. Had dozens and dozens of cars stopped waiting for them. I dont think they really cared to hurry up. Whole new experience, especially on the bike, 8' from a big dude. Wonderful experience.

Meanwhile over on the Bison forum the Bison were discussing what they did today. This large bull in Yellowstone was bragging about how many cars he held up while walking down the yellow line like a Olympic Gymnast on the balance beam.

I see that you would have made the pass, but there was no double yellow involved to make it interesting.

Interesting. I guess I didn't realize you let them get that close to you. I would have been pretty nervous.

I should not have let them get that close. They were crossing the road ahead of us, then turned and walked down the road. Since there was traffic behind me I decided to sit still. I was on a sidecar and planned to fall into the space between the bike and car if a bison got aggressive. Not a good plan, but all I could come up with at the time.

Rode it to work. Where after a stop light, I turned right at a spirited pace. Not redline, but did get on it. Then noticed my abs light was blinking. It blinked for the next 5 miles. Then it went off all by itself. Any idea what that is or means?

Finally got the FJR back together after having the rear subframe welded. Took a 300 mile test ride for some ice-cream. Everything working fine except my radar detector. I know the bluetooth module on it quit working, but it still had power to the unit, now nothing. Will need to investigate that.

Did you spin the rear tire on gravel or something?
