New Shield Offering

Post by bill lumberg »

Aeroflow’s regular and tall screens for FJR’s are now availble. Who’ll be the guinea pig?

Their tall is priced right where Cee baileys were priced, but it’s two inches shorter than the Yamaha Touring screen. I’ve always wished my touring was about half an inch taller. I get a little buffeting at the top of the helmet. Not sure if their aerodynamic voodoo can get a better pocket with a shorter screen, but curious am I.

Due to my dwarfish nature, the stock shield works for me. Only aftermarket shield I want is the Captain America shield.

As far as guinea pigs, I nominate that road rider from The great State of Georgia, yes, Mr. Blue Death on Wheels…the one and only “Bill Lumberg”!!

Nice that someone is trying but based on what they say on website I'm not convinced.
https://www.aeroflowscreens.com/Yamaha/YamahaFJR.htm

Seems to me I need something to launch air over my head from a lower setting on the windshield height adjustment. As the FJR raises the windshield it also moves forward and more vertical which makes turbulence at my helmet.

^this. I'm searching for the same thing on my '13- less turbulence at my helmet with a lower wind shield. The Cee Bailey "Barn Door With A Flip" was perfect for this on the Gen2. Wish I could find a custom plexi-, Lexan, polycarb- molder I could work with.

My tolerance for wind has increased over the last 100,000 miles or so. But I still wish for a little less buffeting a the top of my helmet. I’m traveling 5 hours today and 5 hours tomorrow on the interstate, but due to 80-90 degree heat, I still didn’t swap on the Cee Bailey. Probably should. No helmet buffeting with that thing on.

But this run will be the break-in and assessment of my newly acquired (from a benevolent benefactor) Saeng quick scan mirrors. And those are mounted to my touring screen. If they prove useful enough to outweigh the distraction, I may put mounts on my Cee Bailey as well.

It’s been so hot around here, I’ve though about going full Wheaton and just using a stock shield for local stuff. And we are just getting started. :)

I would have appreciated some cold today. 80°F but "feels like 100°F" with the humidity.

It looks like aeroflow just bought the ceebaily molds. I wouldn't mind seeing a side by side comparison of the two. Either way aeroflow has been around for awhile and I've never heard anyone say anything bad about them.

I love the heat. And I hate the cold. :). The Aeroflow does copy the reverse flip of the magical Cee Bailey, aero just doesn’t offer anything near as skyscraper tall as CB did. I rode 4 hours solid interstate Friday and Saturday, and really never thought about the Yamaha touring screen.

Those saeng mirrors were pretty f@$king sweet, though. Game changer in traffic on or off the interstate. Hard to explain, but I get it now.

I see the website shows what I'd think is FJR standard height...... there is a tall one available although you'd need to ask for details.............

The small is quite close to the stock in size. The largest is still several inches shy of the Yamaha touring, in height.
I’ve always wished someone would buy CB’s molds and start cranking them out. These have a reverse flip strongly reminiscent of Cee Bailey. Not sure they’re entirely similar.

I can’t do Mach speeds with the shield down, but I’ve become much more tolerant of wind. Almost never running the Cee Bailey. Running with the shield down much more often. Maybe there is hope for me yet. I’m going to try dealing with the OEM screen jwilly gave me for a day or two this week. Won’t last long before I run back to the touring, but it’s fun to tinker.

My problem is that my Yamaha Touring shield all the way down still isn't as calm and quiet as standing up.

There are additional images of the tall and short shields here.

These do show that the tall clear appears to have the reverse flip feature.

I was twittering with Natehawk (allegedly) about gear and such, and I’ll be goddamned if Alexa didn’t take it upon herself to order a tall Aeroflow screen.

And I don’t even have Alexa.

Aeroflow shipment arrived. It’s not from a Cee Bailey mold, though there are similarities in shape and material used. Oddly, they included metal screws and metal washers. I didn’t use them, but it was interesting.

Shield looks stock. Wider than the Yamaha touring, a couple of inches shorter. Looks super low when it’s down, reminding me of the original joke screen. I guess tomorrow I’ll get to see how it compares.
