Today I rode to Santa Idaho then on to Elk River Idaho where I didn't see Santa, an Elk or a river.

300 smiles, in 5:45, about $19 in gas and $12 in tires and the return on investment was priceless.

No electrons were consumed taking photos on this very nice ride in the mountains.

Installed red LED bulbs for the running/brake lights. And swapped out the stock shifter arm for the R1 one for a little shorter shifter lever stroke.

Hit the purchase button on RockyMtnATV on a set of PR4s to use for the NAFO trip, never used this tire before, hope it’s good. Also ordered some misc fasteners, some which apparently were never on the bike from OK. Or how fast did jwilly have to ride to start shedding fasteners???

Filthy bike. Brand new rubber. Snuck across the dragon and back. Then across the cherohala skyway. Minimal traffic. Nonexistent traffic enforcement. It pays to be early.

Now, coming back through Ellijay and Jasper was a different story. A little backed up.

I believe this bike is just starting to exhibit the first symptom of a failing tps. I’d never have noticed if I hand t experienced it before. Didn’t detract from a superb ride.

Good news about the ride, bad news about the tps, good on you to spot signs of a bad tps...but you had that previous experience seared into your brain. Hope it isn't though.

You know, I get that sinking feeling every once in a while with my bike. But with almost 150k miles and the occurrence happening very seldom, I am not losing any sleep over it.................. yet🤞

Me neither. If it happens, tiny problem. Heck, it could be fouled plugs from my week of no kickstand spring. Killing the bike that many times while it’s being fueled probably smoked them. And that’s when this showed up…. Probably ride again Wednesday.

My plugs usually come out looking almost new. But all six sets of plugs on my tps-stricken 2014 (all of them in the course of a few months, all paid for by yamaha) came out black and crusty.

Rode 260 miles yesterday under severe clear skies and low humidity conditions.

We had a good time.

I installed speed bleeders on the FJR and my other 4 bikes. I finished bleeding all the brake lines this morning and even did a clutch bleed on the AE. Now I've got to dispose of a lot of dirty brake fluid. I guess I'll use the kitty litter method. I have nowhere else to dispose of any of it.

I changed the oil in the FJR at Bob's Tech Day. When I got home from that shindig, I changed the oil in the other 4 bikes. Fluids are done. Time to ride more and worry less about maintenance.

My used bike fluids go into the big jugs and back to AutoZone. They recycle oil and anything else for no charge. Maybe you can do the same.

During my last ride my Garmin 590 was unusually buggie with features failing to function such as placing a phone call or direction voice none existent. So today I hard wire the GPS instead of key switched. Ray says this is the way to go.

I used to have two 590's. One came with my 17 ES. Now I am down to one as micro usb connector failed on the GPS I purchased in 2016. I plugged it in to the usb cable and nothing. A flash light revealed one of the connections, a sliver of golden wire, was laying inside the micro usb connector. I checked the cables I used and they looked good. I plugged the same cables into the other GPS and it works just fine. I have never had a connector fail on any device before. Good grief.

Is the Garmin XT more stable then the 590/595 series? The 590's features fail when playing music weather it is the built in MP3 player or using my phone as a music source.

I was 14 when I got the motorcycle touring bug. None of my family rode, some of my friends had the same dream, but none of them turned into reality. Turns out my like minded friends were waiting for me in the future, on the other side of a keyboard, on a computer linked to Al Gore's internet. Neither of which were invented in the year 1973, when lightning zapped me with a Cycle Magazine Touring issue.

I've had micro USB's fail on a few devices... should be outlawed... why not the more robust mini Garmin put on other GPS's like the 550 and 396.. or go with USB C. Anyway, suggest calling Garmin, and the conversation may be steered to an XT for a real good discount......... meanwhile, perhaps a good cell phone repair place can replace the micro USB connector.
Give this much touted guy a call....... https://www.palmdr.com/

Can only give you my experience..... The XT plays music just fine if from the phone or if the MP3's are loaded to the device's main 32 GB memory.... not so much if loaded to an SD card. I have a complaint in to Garmin about that.

From what I'm told, brake fluid should not be combined with oil and taken to AutoZone for recycling. They only accept oil. Brake fluid is a different animal.
