Always strikes me as funny to have someone from Atlanta with Yankee in their Forum name. Welcome from New Hampshire!
Being from Alabama, I suppose I should have Rebel as part of my Forum name while living in NH.

Once you hit 5 posts, pm me with your previous forum name, i might be able to reactivate or rename you to it.
Welcome back.
Not sure how sensible it was to trade in a near bullet (and deer) proof 2009 on a more delicate and sensitive '20 model though...

Welcome to you, my southern Yankee friend, from south Louisiana. I'm hoping your '20 model was manufactured late, thereby avoiding the transmission recall for you.
We are glad to have you here.

Welcome back. I'ts very likely you'll enjoy your'20 as much as most members enjoy the ride they currently have. We all have one thing in common, being all FJR's are extremely dependable bike's overall.

I am trying to get my 5 post in! As bullet proof as the 09 was, the upgrades (with the exception of 6th gear (useless)), really helps on the longer trips as you get older!

Re: Intro
From another thread I wrote:
[snip]
I made a pair of 'relocation' bars to bring the trunk back about 1 ½" which actually gives my pillion a lot more seat room. It also reinforces the mounting rack a bit.
[/snip]
The bar is made from 5052 aluminum purchased from McMaster-Carr. It goes between the plastic rack and the metal SR357 frame. I drilled and tapped the holes in the bar. The plastic rack gets screwed into the rear-set holes to move it back. The bar gets screwed into the SR357. It doesn't show in the picture of the bar, but I had to slightly round the corners of the bar to get clearance in the plastic rack.
While an inch to inch & half doesn't sound like much, it makes a huge difference.
Now the down side -- right at the edge of the passenger seat the SR357 has a short vertical bar that runs along the end of the seat which my pillion can touch when scooched back. I took some PVC, cut a length the size of the bar then kerfed the PVC down the length. I painted it black so it wouldn't show then pushed it down over the bar, it's a tight fit and hasn't moved since. I had some dark gray thick foam hot water pipe insulation that I cut to length and pushed that down over the PVC to pad it. On my assfault gray '15 it's essentially invisible. It has held up now for ~5 years but it's getting time to replace the foam. A pool noodle may work in place of the pipe insulation.

Ya, I forgot, I never installed the backrest pad on our trunk. The back protector in pillion's coat makes a good cushion.wheatonFJR wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 10:38 amI took the backrest pad off the givi...works perfectly now for the pillion.

Re: Intro
That works.... alternate solution, make a relocation plate. This one out of 1/4" aluminum for a friend who wanted the top box relocated rearward 75mm, but you can vary this.... 75 might be too far for your needs.... pictured upside down and meant to fit within the perimeter of the Givi bathtub type mount. You can adapt to fit your particular plate, make the slots bigger, etc..... Paint with truck bed liner....
