Well, after no brakes all Ramble weekend and using up the bottom of my boot, I'm a gonna flush the old brake fluid out and squeeze the new fluid in. Really. Honest.

Been tinkering with the '13:

I replaced the stock windshield with a Yammy touring one the seller passed along. Yesterday I replaced it with a larger VStream. We'll see.

Also, the F2 LED bulbs I wasn't expecting for another few weeks showed up, installed them yesterday too. I have them on the '07- proven technology to me so I went with the same.

Installed my Sargent seat. Much better than the Yammy Comfort on this bike for me. The RDL the '13 came with is crap for me- I hate that thing. Hated it years ago too when I bought one for the '07. Sold it to a feller down Charlotte way.

Put a new tire (R5GT) on the front.

Mounted a Bridgestone T32GT on the rear wheel. They don't just jump on. Balance was good with no weights required.

I did that the other day on the outer 485 loop south of Charlotte. Discovered too that the 82 mph cruise control limit on the '13 is sometimes too limiting. Needed it to be 87-92 Just to keep up.

Well Saturday I didn't get to ride the FJR. The Cabin needed sealing. So Saturday was a work day.
Used a sealer with some Cedar tint. I like how it came out.


Sunday morning was beautiful. We have been having a really nice spring in Florida. The evenings and mornings are nice and cool. Not too much rain. Perfect riding weather.

Got back home yesterday. Had a great week with my family. Saturday Natehawk750 was a glutton for punishment and rode from Baton Rouge to the Bucees in Alabama to meet and ride back with me. All interstate boringness. Bucees ended up being a major mistake. I've been to the Madisonville Bucees on Thanksgiving and it's a complete madhouse, and that doesn't compare to the Alabama Bucees. The traffic in and out was terrible.

When we got to Baton Rouge we headed to the Redfish house where Pops was already there and Joey was on the way. Much good food was consumed, lies were told, and a good time was had by all.

Nate and his wife offered up their home, a bed, and a shower to me that night. I think the shower was probably more than a suggestion considering I'd been on the bike all day, but whatever. I slept good and got up and headed home getting there just after lunchtime. As much fun as I had on the trip, it sure was good to be back home with my wife, son, and of course my dog who attacked me when I got home.

Since I don't use cruise control in urban areas, nor necessarily ride in urban areas if I can help it it doesn't affect me. Sounds like you need your '13 chip flashed so you can get the 120mph cruise control. Ooops, I mean 100 .

I use my FJR for day trips only and cross-country trips on 2 laner roads, so the 80mph works for me, if I want it for a little bit, on the 55mph posted roads.

Took the long way to Redfish's house Saturday. It had been raining for a week straight, the sunshine was very welcome.

The old town of St. Martinville was looking well:



Not much going on out here, so I turned the reins loose on the ole girl.







I got to the swamp levee and really let her sing. I passed 3 sport bikes at about a buck twenty, nice of them to stay in their lane. I did signal to merge back to the right lane.



Nice day for a ride.

Took the ferry across Old Man River. Legitimate 2 foot chop, put the bike on the center stand just in case.



Got to Redfish's house and to my pleasant surprise, the dude actually had good beer. Nice bark on the pork roast cooked in the greaseless fryer. It was great to see Nate, Jasen, Andrew, and most of all - Pops. If you haven't met Andrew's Dad, you are missing out. He's one cool old dude, man.

Ms. Amy knows Pants has a sweet tooth. Redfish - what the heck did you do to deserve her?




The slab ride home in the dark was mostly uneventful, but I did have fun playing with a late model ZL-1 Camaro just outside of Baton Rouge. Since we were touching "going to jail" speeds, I let him play the rabbit. (Bad Pants)

Come West. Out here those 2 lane roads have 70mph speed limits. Sometimes you can almost get run off the road by a minivan for doing 85mph on those roads.

I hate speed limits of less than 30 mph when 40 mph would be reasonable. It sucks that I can't set the cruise in second gear because the cruise would keep me out of ticket territory on these heavily radar regulated streets.

And, it's for this reason I also have what's pictured below.

From a time when I was pulled over for something I hadn't done -- The cop (no respect for this one, else he would be a law enforcement officer) points to my radar detector and declares that I'm a habitual speeder that uses the detector just so I can deliberately break the law. He says that he would normally give someone a warning, but with that thing on my handlebars he would always give out the biggest tickets he could. I tell him that I use the detector only as a warning device to give me a second or two just to verify that I'm not speeding. When you check my driving record you will find no speeding tickets.

Riding with my LEO brother in his cruiser I realize that if an officer runs his speed patrol properly and I'm speeding, a radar detector will do no good. Fortunately, in our area they don't run proper speed control. Except for Maine highways, but that's another issue for another thread.



This radar detector is almost completely immune to automotive guidance radar, it has a GPS that notes exact location and frequency of alerts. If the alert is in the same exact place, at the same exact frequency it will recognize it as an alarm/door sensor/fixed speed board, etc and lock it out so there are no more false alerts. It's billed as the quietest radar detector you can have. It is also undetectable by radar detector - detectors. But many will say it's totally useless because it doesn't have [love] arrows [/love].

Today, I put a gifted sidestand spring on. It was nice to get it in the (expedited) mail. A sidestand you have to hold
Up with your foot is seriously inconvenient.

What isn’t inconvenient is grilling steaks and cleaning guns simultaneously on the deck. I spent all day in the heat and sun,
about 91F mid day. I was ready for some AC. Then, when I got home, (to install springs and clean guns and grill), I couldn’t strip down to shorts fast enough to get back outside. Hot and sunny makes me irrationally happy. I may be the illegitimate son of Jimmy Buffet.

I like the heat...but my tendency to get short tempered and impatient comes out in the heat. That bore out yesterday when unmentionable hooliganism reared its ugly face.

When it is hot out and near the end of a ride, I will have to preplan not to be around cities like Walhalla when a line of cars and 'sicles amble behind two p\u trucks pulling RVs down 28 at 10 mph UNDER the speed limit for miles. Bad things happen.

One important thing about the later Gen radar detectors is immunity to driver guidance radar. Here in New England, with crowded highways, using a standard detector you discover they become Honda, Hyundai and GMC detectors and alert constantly and persistently. For this reason alone I will be selling an Escort 9500 which is an excellent detector, except it doesn't have immunity to guidance radar. My Redline (non-360) is almost completely immune to guidance radar. I really like the way it learns non-police radar along my route. My first trip to visit my mother the detector went off a lot, especially in Durham NH, but after a couple or three trips it's now totally silent except for when there are real threats.

It sucked when the FCC opened up gaps in the police band for commercial use. Some car manufacturers jumped on it and now their products are a scourge for radar detectors.
