What did you do to your FJR today?

If you're not travelling, then you don't need much, but I think the FJR looks great with the bags on and I prefer the top box for my rain gear, extra gloves and some toolz with compressor and tire repair kit. Smuggler might hold a pair of gloves, JS. Oh yes and I have a tank bag too.
All my opinion of course, only you know what your minimum needs are for storage.

I'll never learn how much to pack... I've done two trips 8000+km trips on my FJR and BOTH times I ended up mailing home half the shit I brought with me so I wouldn't have to cart it on the return leg of the journey.

Last year on my trip to Red Lodge I had all the bags full plus a dry bag. Cav gets there with his daughter and somehow he fit both their stuff plus camping stuff in just the saddle bags and top box. I have no idea what black magic he practices but it's pretty amazing.

This was my load out for my last 4400km trip out to BC... Side bags full, Top case full, dry bag and take-down rifle (the thing on top of the dry bag)
Most of the stuff in the dry bag got boxed up and shipped back home once I reached my destination.

Well got a chance to take a closer look today at the subframe and confirmed no cracking of the aluminum only some cracking/twisting of the plastic cross brace at the beginning or ending depending on which way you're looking of the grab rails. ...Since the damage is so minor and I don't have any long trips planned I'll just take the box off for now till I get around to addressing it...

These are the cracks I found. Have you ever seen anything like that? Do you think I can just plastic weld it.

I have never seen that before..... did spousal unit have a white knuckle death grip, lol? I'd vote replacing it, I'm not sure plastic welding/epoxy would hold up.....

Hard to tell about the death grip but the pounding on my back yelling "slow down " could have been an indication.

Yeah no unusual usage of the grab rails it's a mystery. Now just need to decide on my course of action. Decisions, decisions.

That was a little different, and worse... it was the actual cast aluminum seat latch bracket that got broken when an innocent one followed the BoneHead's suggestion. The true fix for that is a new rear subframe..... best not watch those videos.

Ok started looking into replacement pieces and looking at pictures of the same piece (plastic) it almost looks as though it is supposed to be that way. Not sure if you can see it in the pictures but the piece seems to be only attached in a small section. The rest appears smooth as if nothing was ever attached not like it was broken off. I also see some other connections that are the same due to the angles of the pieces being connected. I know it seems like I'm beating a dead horse here but I just find it so odd and especially that I never noticed it in all these years. I did mention my OCD didn't I. Gonna have to really get in there and clean the connections so I can really see what's going on. Some disassembly may be required.

That is a really weird looking failure. I would expect shearing distortion of the metal, not a clean separation like what looks like a seam as is shown in the photo.

Ok started looking into replacement pieces and looking at pictures of the same piece (plastic) it almost looks as though it is supposed to be that way. ....The rest appears smooth as if nothing was ever attached not like it was broken off....I just find it so odd and especially that I never noticed it in all these years. Yamaha shows the Handle, Seat as all one piece. There is only one P/N for the grab bar. It should all be metal of some sort. It is the same part from '03 (US models) to today. I looked for my grab bar which was removed to install the Givi SR357 but I didn't see it, therefore it's stashed so well it would take a Big Dig to locate it. Anyhoo, it's all one piece everyplace but your FJR

I won't swear it's metal; I have that memory from weight and feel when I removed my grab rail. We need someone to take a walk aaallll the way out to their FJR and take a look. The fasteners (fancy speak for bolts) don't look like the type used to bolt down plastic pieces.

The OEM that comes on the bike is a resin material. There is an optional spendy aluminum OEM available that is very robust.
Remove the two bolts at the front of the mount (leave the rear). You should be able to lift/pry it enough to see if it's genuinely cracked. If you want a pic of one off the bike, I can do that.....

At any rate plastic or metal all seems weak as the thing your passenger is hanging onto to keep from getting launched from the bike.
